Joeykins
Junior Guinea Pig
hi everyone,
Well we've taken the plunge and our 2yr old male, Bumble, is getting neutered tomorrow morning - in the hope that he can form a little herd with our two girls! He's been living alone since the summer when he came to live with us after fighting with his previous cage-mate after the pair of them were put in the same cage as their females. He currently lives in a shared 3storey C&C with Buttercup and Daisy, they have a shared floor which is divided by grids so they can see, smell and 'talk pig' to each other, which they spend most of their time doing (well, he chirrups and rumbles at them while they lay down nose-to-nose with him and generally look unimpressed). I've not seen any signs of aggression between them while they've lived like this (no chattering of teeth or yawning or distress shown by any of them) so we decided to go ahead with a neuter so they can hopefully live together!
He is being checked in tomorrow morning, after his op he'll be living in what can best be described as a 'guinea pig intensive care unit' in my room! Their shared cage is in our lounge but I wanted to put him somewhere seperate so he can have peace and quiet and I can monitor him easily overnight, especially the first night. Pic below
It's not got his food or water or hay in it yet, but Critical Care and Avipro are on standby, the fridge and cupboard are full of his favourite veg and forage, and everything has been thoroughly cleaned down, with plenty of fresh towels and pads of keep the area as clean as possible. The radiator is on but turned down and I've got a thermometer set up to make sure he is toasty warm but not overheated.
I'm so nervous for his op! I've not looked after a post op piggie before, he is still quite a wary, nervous pig, but generally a very healthy and happy one so fingers crossed.
As you can see from the pic below (which is insisting on being sideways at the moment.......) he couldn't be less concerned!

Please wish him luck and send him healing wheeks tomorrow! And if anyone has any advice it is very gratefully received!
