Burgess Excel shortage

That seems to be area dependent though - I can’t get ss grainless in any of my local pet shops, they sell the normal version but not grainless. My two are having ss grainless at the moment but I only managed to get that as an add on item on amazon.

Have you got a garden centre with a pets corner chain shop?

I have to confess, mine are fussy but if I can't get Burgess I buy P@H nuggets with a hint of mint.
Also has anyone tried excel with a taste of blackcurrant? Mine go mad for it with a bit of pea flake for a treat!

I used to feed all burgess nuggets but stopped when i realised they use alfalfa hay

My local independent pet shop doesn't stock SS Grainless, but will order it in for me if I ask.
I recently bought some Versele Laga with elderberry and timothy as a stop-gap, my three loved it, but I would rather keep them on the ss and give them the Versele Laga as an occasional treat.

Everyone seems to be hating on Burgess Excel, it’s nade me skeptical, is it actually good quality food? If it isn’t are there any others you recommend?

I think burgess are fine.. I’ve used them for my rabbits for years. I feed a mix of burgess and ss grainless when I can get hold of it.
it looks like Harrington’s contains Maize and from what I’ve seen I don’t think that they shouldn’t have that either, so I don’t think there is going to be much difference!
Pellets should only make up such a small portion of their diet anyway, that I think as long as you aren’t overfeeding them, then it shouldn’t be a problem...surely?

I dont think rabbits are prone to bladder stones like guinea pigs are, part of me thinks are nuggets worth giving atall? I really dont think any nugget is brilliant. But i decided to not buy burgess after i had a pig get 3 bladder stones, but i was feeding too much back then anyway

Yes , sorry I did mean in terms of guinea pigs not the rabbit.
And you’re right, they aren’t important at all

I still dont dare not to feed nuggets though lol. I might make a thread to get opinions. I hear vit d is important for indoor pigs and i dont know what veg contains enough.

I’d love to stop feeding nuggets too but they like them and I’d feel guilty :( Plus I’ve heard they still need the vitamins.
Thats what i want to work out, are they getting enough from the veg? Alot of newbie owners feed muesli and thats full of rubbish so i duno

I've found that mine really like Burgess... I've tried loads over the years. But currently due to the Burgess Excel shortage (The Mole Country Store still have some) I'm on Wilco own and Harringtons. They're not so keen but for mine they have loads of balanced fruit and veggies and excellent quality hay (practically straight from the field) so I can't complain.

And when you have a piggy whose on a low calcium / sugar and carbohydrate diet due to IC and diabetes (well they both are) veg is limited to what they can eat
