I think the shavings I use is pine. If I order liners I will order from Ziggy's piggies she has very good prices and products. The only issue I have with liners is money it costs alot to get two liners. I'm looking forward to trying fleece it will probably be another month maybe even two until I try it though.

Yes it is pretty costly for the initial set up cost, but after you get them you only have to use a bit of electric to wash them so I think it's more cost effective in the long run. My girls are too spoilt lol.

This is my 2x5 C&C cage. I need some better fleeces, but my two 7 week old boys LOVE IT! They are popcorning so much, it's amazing to see. Also they are both using their litter trays to pee and do most of their droppings in, but sometimes have to Hoover up a few that i find in their houses.image.webpimage.webp

Spacious that cage is, young Jedi! Hard to clean is it? Hard to clean is mine, although 2x4 mine is.

If you were looking for ideas for toys, I've attached a picture of what I do for my boys. I know alot of people do this already but if you have never thought of it, guinea pigs LOVE them (well mine do)image.webp

@Sian25 that's a good idea I tried it with my rabbit once I will try with the guinea pigs. They love anything with food!

Cleaning bad, it is not. Haha! It's actually not that bad. I change the fleece every 4 days, hoover up poops, and change their litter trays daily.

I'm thinking about ordering cage liners from Ziggy's piggies. I probably need two,I'm hoping it will save money in the long run.

@Sian25 I stuff toilet tubes and fold the ends in but make a little hole in the top so they get a taster, they enjoy having to nibble it open and quite frankly prefer it to normal store toys haha!

@Jade1986 how do you clean the correx? I find it hard to get to the far side of the cage with a cloth, thinking of investing in a long handled steam cleaner but if there's a cheaper/easier way I'd love to know! Oh and great Yoda btw :P

Me too @Cavy Crazy but I need to save up a bit of money first as I have a big order. Ziggy is lovely and so quick at replying to even the most inane questions I sent her haha. Hopefully can order soon.

I just use the clean n safe spray and a sponge and it wipes down well. The corners are hard to get into but i take the coroplast out and open it all up once every couple of weeks, so there doesn't get much build up.

Ah I can't take out my coroplast 'cause I have part of a rigid top and a lid on my cage as I have a cat lol. It's really hard to get into all the corners :(

I have decided to make my own liners,I can't afford to order them unfortunately.

I can't really afford them but it'll probably be just as expensive to make them... May I ask how you made yours and what you used to do so? :)

I haven't made any yet,I don't think it will be as expensive,I'm going to put two layers of towels in the centre and sew two pieces of fleece as an outer layer. If It's expensive to make a liner,I will just put fleece on top of towels.

I'm using towels and then fleece rn, it's a pain in the bum lol. I'm still on the fence whether to attempt to make one or not and I can't afford it rn so I might give it a try first.

It's worth a try if it saves money,I'm hoping I can manage the sewing. It's expensive to buy a liner, even though Ziggy's prices are fantastic.

I agree, I just finished making my piggies snuggle sacks but I put the sewing machine needle actually THROUGH my finger, twice XD They're really pretty though.

I'd love to see yours and how you got on making the liner! I'll probably have a go eventually when I'be gained a bit of confidence and a better idea of what to do. I rather fancy putting a mattress protector on top of the towel between the fleece for extra absorbing and cushiony comfort :)

I am going to buy some fleece tomorrow and try it,I think a cage liner looks easier than the snuggle sack because it's flat lol I was just going to buy those.

Depends how you make the sacks, the first ones I made were definitely easier but not as good. These new ones have boning to keep the entrance open and also wadding between the layers for extra comfort. They are way too spoiled XD

Yea I guess the cage liners should be easier but I want them to last and if I can find some super cheap cotton mattress protectors then I'll at least have a crack at one.

I'm going to search some YouTube tutorials tonight and maybe I can get started tomorrow. I'm not sure if it would be a pain having 2 smaller liners,I'm not sure if I can get fleece big enough for a 2 x 5 I will have a look though.

I just edited my post and put a pic of the snuggle sack on it lol. Blood, sweat and tears!

Yea that's the trouble, would probably be easier to have sections? Idrk but as you say it's not easy to find fleece wide enough!

That's a lovely snuggle sack. I'm not sure, with sections maybe the piggies would try and burrow in the gaps. I will look for the biggest fleece I can find.

That's great that they use their litter trays so much, that's going to save you a lot of washing!

If you look at YouTube tutorials snuggle sacks are soooo easy! I have no sewing skills and I made one in under 5 mins with an old jumper. Oh and I sewed wire inside the fleece to keep it open. They love it for lap time:

Also a quick question -

I was going to make a cage liner from towel and fleece but the mini wee pads (15cm) take around 50mins to dry in the machine, and the towels take a long time without the fleece. So I was wandering if a mattress protector would dry faster?

It would save so much time!

I will try making a snuggle sack. @Blossom15 sorry I don't know,it might be worth a try. What type of wire did you use?

I think it was some sort of garden wire that I wrapped in a circle a few times, and then I sewed it inside where you fold the opening back.

Obviously the pigs can't get to it :)

I just got fleece it's not big enough for a cage liner but I will make a few snuggle sacks. It's grey,it was reduced to €2.90 I'm going to get loads more next week.

Ah good!

I don't know if you can get to the link above but maybe copy it into your browser and it's called 'How to make a cozy/sleepy sack for your guinea pigs' and it's the one I used for mine (I think I changed the size slightly for the fleece I had though). Good luck!

*this is not my video*

@Blossom15 I would imagine they would dry faster, it would depend on the type/quality of the protector but I would think that cotton ones like I'm looking for should do the job.

@Cavy Crazy oh lovely! There are loads of demos on YouTube, including "no sew" ones but I've never bothered watching one lol! I use this one
except I modified it a lot for these new sacks by using wadding and boning which meant it wasn't as easy but if I can manage it anyone can XD
