No, neither of those. Thank you very much for this advice, I'm going to ask the vet about this.

I'd definitely ask for a ursine culture & sensitivity. The test isn't that costly and will give you a definite answer of whether or not there's bacteria, and if there is, which antibiotic will do the job.
 
I am pleased to report that after Yeti has been on acidophilus for a few days, his appetite has returned and he's maintaining his weight. It got to the point where he was grabbing the syringe off me when I syringe fed him! When I clean him out, he is also wandering around my lounge with a couple of the girls following him, so things are hopefully getting back to normal.:)
