Came Home To Blood :(

I'm sorry I thought they had been fighting due to the other injuries but if they had I think you would have seen aggression. Good luck with the vet visit, thinking of you.

Going to take her to the vets hopefully tomorrow... will let you all know the outcome and thanks again for the advice........ i now need to get some dinner after all this drama,,,, and i sliced the top of my thumb this morning with a knife so that is now throbbing !

That wound is not a bite wound. A bite wound be clean and perhaps swollen. That's flaky, and ring like - also it's much bigger than a bite would appears.

I just assumed it was a bite cos it was bloody... that is why i am on here asking for advice..

Try not to worry too much @artcasper until you have been to the vet, if there is no sign of fighting then chances are it is fungal like Sportbilly and Flintstones have said. I don't have experience of fungal so I can't comment, however, I do have experience of sows falling out and the bites have been quite unnoticeable until the big bloody one followed by the horrendous atmosphere. Get yourself to the vets tomorrow and see what they recommend.

It's ok @artcasper

Tracy.. your not a vet so your not to know if she has roundworm, a bite or something else.. anyway, let the vet check it before getting worried, it could still be a bite :) I'll cross my fingers for you Mrs x

UPDATE : Just got back from The Vets.... She can not tell if it is Ringworm or an infected bite :(

I have got some Baytril 0.3ml once a day for 7 days and some Inflacam 0.1ml once a day for 7 days to be given with food..
She has taken a sample for a culture re the ringworm.. Should know within 10 days for sure but possibly in 3 days.
Poor Pippin needs a nice long nap this afternoon as she looks terrified xx

Looks like the Inflacam is pain relief?

I hope the results come back quickly so you know what you are dealing with. in the meantime I would follow the hygiene precautions in our guide just to be on the safe side.

yes @helen105281 she said it was pain relief as the wound looks VERY RAW and sore.... I really do feel for her... Just fetched her some Pro C as advised by @Kerrie74 - just not sure whether to add to her water or sprinkle it on the food...

You can try it on the food, but wouldn't add it to her water, you can also syringe it to her, 1 mill 1 - 2 hours after her antibiotics. See I've learnt something from Wibke and @helen105281 lol XD

We syringe it to ours.

so... I've got the big rug out and out them both together for a play, they have spent last night and the day apart... Gladys & Pippin immediately huddled up together... Gladys looked like she was either kissing Pippins body or trying to bite her ! There was no noise so i think she was sniffing and kissing.. even though i was right there on the floor i couldn't see her mouth... Pippin was quiet so i don't think gladys was hurting her.. but then she did do a little nip at Pippin as she squeaked... i put pippin back in her cage then as Gladys has been put in the small spare cage so needed some exercise ...
I am just at a loss what to do about keeping them together ..... i can't bear the thought of Pippin being hurt again so badly - if indeed her wound is a bite.. I was hoping for more answers today from the vets, well at least a definite answer i.e a bite or infection...

I am more inclined to think it is fungal, and if that's the case I would put them back together but bear in mind that both would need to be treated. They have been in the same air space so ideally you should do that anyway even if it is just Imaverol dips for Gladys and not any oral medication. See what others think though.

Keep an eye on it if the area spreads then most likely fungal. It starts to get worse then you roughly know it is then get back to vets, the quicker you treat fungal the better. It is very odd, how long have they been together? Any weight loss?

no weight loss, she is the fatty bum bum one lol ! they have been together since day one, 6 months old now.. i have checked Gladys and there are no signs of anything on her...

Fungal doesn't always transmit, we have had one piggy out of four have it. Hoping that the cause becomes apparent over the next few days

thank you.. when Gladys had fungal not long after we had them Pippin never caught it... Its just that the wound looks so sore and raw.. bet it really stings x

Do you think I should order some Imaverol in ready so if it is fungal it will be ready ? X

It's always good to have in, so yes I would.
@helen105281 i have just placed an order for Imaverol and they called me for further info and said they can't supply it without a prescription as its not licensed for guinea piggies... this was from VioVet online,,,, any thoughts ?

You are best buying from hyper drug. Search enilconazole on here and you should find a thread with the link. I can't link to it on my phone. The product Hyper drug sell is unbranded and specifically for small animals. I can post link after work if needed.
