My guinea had been sick with an eye infection and while weak was stripped of dominance. He ended up getting injured by another piggie and went to the vet. Now he is healed but is separated from his pack. After 3 months alone he has started to make this noise attached.

I have tried to research and found he could be hurt, scared or lonely. There was a big bang earlier today but this was a few hours ago and unsure if he was making it beforehand.

He is making this sound often today. Should I take to the vet?

Thank you.

It could be any of these things. Noises can be quite tricky to determine. If he is well, then I am not sure there will be any benefit in taking him to the vet for the sound, but if he is displaying signs of being in pain or unwell then do see a vet.
Does he still live alongside other piggies for company? Separated piggies need to have through the bar interaction with others.

He is eating and his poops are normal colour/shape and amount, walking around fine. He is in a cage divided/shared with his family. Unfortunately, we covered the wire cage separator with a blanket a few days ago due to him pulling on it and breaking his teeth. Maybe I will remove it while supervising him. This is the first time he has made this noise today and now it's every few hours.

Thank you x

He is 5+ in age so I worry about him.

A sudden noise can unsettle piggies for quite some time afterwards.
He was separated because fights occurred is that correct? What other piggies do you have?

Yes, he got bitten on the face and needed 6 stitches. We separated and tried to reintroduce after a few months but unfortunately, there was a different relationship in the pack and lots of violence over dominance. I have two males (neutered) and a female.

It's a long story but we got the first neutered male from the SPCA (NZ) (unsure what his age is) and wanted to get him a friend. Got him a female cage friend and turned out she was pregnant with one male baby piggie. We had him neutered and he was submissive and all worked out for 3 years until the original got sick. And you know the rest.

Ah ok. I see the issues here - first, once there has been a major fight, piggies will never go back together, plus you can only really keep one Male with any number of females. Two males with a female will almost always result in fights at some point. It seems you were lucky to get to the point you did of having them together for so long.
He will definitely need to stay separate to the other two now.

Do you have plans to find him a new female friend?

Is he making the noise while peeing?
I wonder if he has a stone or bladder sludge and that is causing him pain?

So I did check his pee for blood before and there is none but I have watched him for some time and he did very small amounts of pee and squealed both times. I'm guessing at vet appointment is in order.

Yes, squeaking while toileting = vet. Let us know how it goes.

Update:

Hey everyone,

So Treacle had a vet visit resulting in an X-ray and his stomach felt yesterday. No gallstones :)

The vet glanced at his urine and faeces samples but didn't take any for testing. No visible blood by eye.

He believes it is psychological as he was alone for a few months (over lockdown) but I have checked today and it seems he is squealing during urination.

I'm wondering if it is a UTI.

Have given him 0.1ml of Meloxicam 0.5 (anti-inflammatory and pain relief)

Thanks

Not all blood is visible, if needs to be tested to know for sure.
If you aren’t happy with what the vet did, then do seek another opinion
