Its been 5 months since I had to have my eldest boar Varo put to sleep & I just can't seem to get over it. I know I did the right thing for him as he was 7 1/2 years old was blind, had glaucoma, impaction , diabetes and arthritis in his legs. It was his arthritis that eventually made him not be able to move his back legs that I had him put to sleep. I had him cremated so I still have him with me, but I just miss him so much. I'm comforted by knowing that he is out of pain and over the rainbow bridge. He was such a character! & I am very lucky to of had him

BIG HUGS

It looks like Varo had the best of homes with you! It is hard to let a beloved one go; sometimes you really struggle.

One way that may help you is starting a diary about your feelings, but at the same time also writing down all those precious memories and shared moments as you remember them and as they come back to you. Over time, this will hopefully help you to heal since you will discover just how much of Varo is still alive in your heart - and will always stay there; especially as you can always go and read it up again.

There are also free service numbers for pet bereavement, which are manned by specially trained volunteers. Some of our members that had problems after losing their own beloved piggies found it very helpful to have an open, non-judgemental listener and somebody to help them develop a more constructive way of dealing with their grief.

Thankyou so much for your reply

I'm so sorry for your loss but as @Wiebke rightly put it is clear you loved him very dearly and as far as I'm concerned there is nothing more a piggy could want then a loving piggy mummy who opened her heart and home to him. And for him to live to such a good age is only more evidence that proves he had a really good home. Not only that but he is still with you in your heart and memories. I have so many pets that I've lost over the years and I miss them now as I did when they died. There'll always be a part of me missing in a way because you give all your love to them but then you also fill that hole when you get more pets becuase they share their heart with you- at least thats how I look at it- a bit of me is with them and a bit of them is woth me. Hugs and thoughts are with you and your piggies. X

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful Varo. It's so hard when we lose a furry friend. Varo was loved and you did your very best for him that is all any of us can ask. Sending you hugs and very my best wishes.

I've lost many pets over the years. Some piggies leave a bigger hole behind than others. You gave him a fabulous home and he had a great life with you. Huge hugs x

To have had Varo for 7 1/2 years reflects how much you loved & cared for him. The pet bereavement service's may help you. My heart goes out to you, don't be a stranger on the forum, hugs coming your way

I'm so sorry @winnie . I lost my avatar boy a few weeks ago (he was 7), and I find myself tearing up at random things. I think about him first thing when I wake up every day.

I've lost quite a few pigs over the years and I still get upset on occasion. I'll have a cry over them sometimes and I'll always think 'What if?'. At those times I try to force myself to think of all of the great times I had with them. Each one of them brought me so much joy.

I am so sorry for the loss of your little special boy. It is obvious you shared such a special strong bond. People and pets we lose never really leave us they stay in our hearts and in our thoughts forever. Huge hugs to you x

Sleep well little one

I'm so sorry for your loss. You obviously loved him very much and gave him a wonderful home. It's so hard to say goodbye, and grieving is not something that has a time limit. Many ((HUGS)) to you.
