Casran: An Update

Morning everyone.

Casran is just the same really... noisy breathing.

He's mega hungry tho so that's something.

He hates critical care but likes his pellets mushed down. Trying to get him to take the critical care instead tho ... muchos angry drama (from the lion, not me).

There are five 40mg tablets in the bottle... 200mg in the bottle.

... I don't know how to work it out from here! x

I would need to know how much liquid is in the bottle I think.

The bottle says...

5 x Furosemide 40mg tablets (so that's a total of 200mg)

Give 0.05ml by mouth twice a day.

I've been watching this video on how to convert mg into ml... and now I need to go lie down!

Have you tried Supreme Recovery food - like critical care, but just a different brand. Mine have all liked it.

Oooh, cheers mate! The prob with the pellets is, it doesn't liquefy down enough so most of it doesn't draw up the syringe. x

@TheAurora , very sorry to hear that Casran is still not feeling very good. Perhaps you could try mixing a bit of the Recovery food in with his mashed pellets, and then just increase it a bit at a time until its all Recovery and no pellets? Hope that makes sense!
We're all routing for the Lion!

Science Recovery (Only available to vets) - Supreme Petfoods

This is a link to information about Supreme Recovery Food. It says that it's only available from vets, but you can also get it online, e.g. Amazon 10 sachets for about £16.

You can water it down a lot ( I tend to add more water than the instructions) and it has all the fibre needed. Will he take mushed up pellets from a spoon? He's eating other foods, so you might find that you can provide additional feed that way without the faff of syringing.

Thanks!

I'm basically giving him a few syringe feeds to give him a break from chewing ... because of his heart probs eating causes breathing issues.

Also it's one way of getting the probiotic powder into him.

How is your gorgeous boy this morning? xx

Having a crazy half hour of rampaging teenage boyhood.

He's being so crazy I've had to pop him back in his cage ... when he kicks off it's simply a case of destruction derby - even I get jumped on, cushions get ripped, books and clothing eaten, everything pulled off sofa arms, the laptop attacked... It must be a boy thing!

At least, with all his breathing probs, I know he still has some energy.

He's ripping his box to pieces as I type.

:)) Good lad Casran! What time is your appointment next Saturday? Would you mind me popping in to see you both? xx

No of course! It's 11.45am. Altho, since there has been so little improvement, I do wonder if Sarah will say enough is enough. But at least you can give him a cuddle and say goodbye. And me a cuddle! x

Awww let's hope not! I've got to be somewhere about 1.30 so I'll try & nip in quick to see you both whilst you are waiting to go in. I really hope it's just a matter of just adjusting his meds now, fingers crossed xx

He's off on another mad half hour...

It all started when - led spread eagle on his hot water bottle, watching NCIS, wheezing like a 40 a day smoker and giving me the "hand feed me mummy" eye - Casran heard me open a bag of crisps at the other end of the sofa and jumped up, sprinted across the three-seater and leaped on my lap quicker than Concorde burning tarmac on the runway. After jumping at my face and head butting my chin repeatedly, he soon realised the food was not for him, affected his "I'm - cough, cough - so ill" look and bobbed back to his hot water bottle.

How is our little lion today @TheAurora ? x

Gosh, I missed this! When did you post it? So sorry.

He's had a slightly better few days.

Lots to discuss with the vet Saturday, fingers crossed he comes home with me again.

If it goes on much longer he will need a friend ... it's quite sad how upset he gets when I leave in the morning and how overcome with excitement he is when I get home.
