Castration, Should They Eat?

I rang them today and they don't have any appointments until end of next week - but Simon is going to ring me Tuesday to find out what's going on!

Biscuit - 0.45ml once a day
Buttons- 0.35ml once a day

That's the dosage of loxicom they are on at the moment but I am splitting it in half in hope it lasts longer as the squealing is even worse in the night x

What strength Loxicom is it? Cat or Dog one? How much do they weigh? Your vet might think they are on the max dose but I have had my piggies on much bigger doses in the past. There is no reason why they can't have a low dose of Tramodol as well, if they are still in so much pain :( Being in pain will impact greatly on their eating. Has any of the swelling gone down yet?

It's for dogs it says on the pot! Buttons weighs just over 1kg and biscuit is 1.18kg. I know it's just so hard because it's bank holiday and there not open until Tuesday :( but I have two vets ringing me on Tuesday to give me advice one is that Simon Maddoch and one is Nathalie head of excotics vets at Scotts clinic in Bedford. Going to see what they say! If they agree they can have more then I'll be ringing nine lives and damanding they have more ! I think buttons lump has gone down ever so slightly. But it's hard to tell because they have bushy hair! And I'm trying not to touch their stomachs because they are so sensitive.

Buttons had his half dose this morning and again by 12 he was crying again when urinating, so at 1oclock I gave him the other half. I put them both outside in their runs with a heat pad in the bed, and fleece on the ground, to see if that will cheer them up a little! Buttons earlier when I picked him like a clump of diarrhoea came out of his bum, so I panicked thinking he is going down hill, but then he ATE IT! so I have a hunch it could be that poo that they have to eat, hopefully as there was other poos in the cage that looked fresh and weren't like that xx

It will have been a "special" poop, they look different to other ones. The pigs know which ones to eat and which to leave.

My own vet recommended Natalie but I did hear she was more geared up to reptiles or something, I might be wrong. I have had many visits to Simon, as have Wiebke, Helen etc, all members of longstanding on here & very experienced piggy owners, so I would take him to Simon out of choice. Better to not waste any further vet visits imo & get your boy there x

I don't know :( what did you all think to the dosage I am given them? Have you given your pigs more? my vets are open for an emergency drop in session tomorrow at 11, but I can't guarantee I'll see my usual vet :(

Buttons isn't even eating his veg now, he's gone right off food! This is a vicious circle

Kirsty you are doing very well.you can safley increase the dose to 0.2 mls twice daily for both, but you may want to wait until you have spoken with simon.simon is the best, ive taken a few of my piggies there, even been to a local exotic that, has less bed side manners that could not help on one occasion.i would keep weighting daily, continue syringe feeding ,until you get to another vet.Things should be getting better not worse, think you do need a second opinion.xx

if crying when weeing ,may have a urinary tract infection (uti).but that needs a vet to diagnose and treat.i do feel for you.it always happens on a bank hoilday.x

Just to make matters worse, I have now ran out of emeraid ! Grr! And I no I can't even mash up some pellets because they won't take them :( tried before.

Try adding a tiny little bit of 100% fresh orange juice to the the mashed pellets or add in a bit of probiotic. Something to change it's taste. That might get them to eat it.

Does it matter how much bio lapis they have? As Buttons loves the taste of it, and I want to use it to rehydrate him also. He won't take normal water! His poops are very light brown at the moment, is that an indication of dyhyration?

Having read your thread all the way through, I think you need a second opinion on this. So far I've had two boys neutered & I didn't have any of the problems. To cry when he passes water or poo's is really not acceptable. No pet should be in pain with all the good drugs around. Tell Simon everything & he may be able to fit you in. If he can't he may be able to chat to your vet, to get a solution to this problem. Good luck.
By the way this is NOT your FAULT.

Very best of luck ! Please ensure you tell him about the squeaking when weeing/pooping & that you don't feel their pain relief is enough that you have been given.

I spoke to him on the phone earlier for ages and he was so helpful already! I told him everything and he agreed something wasn't right, does anyone no if there is good parking there? I've never been. It's so hard trying to juggle two guinea pigs in separate carriers too!

He's brill isn't he @Kirsty ! That's why we all love him, and Kim too.

There's a carpark just outside and also plenty of parking across the street or around the back if the front is a bit full. It"s usually quieter later on in the day.

Simon is amazing. He is the reason that TEAS exists. We couldn't do what we do without him and Kim. I am there tomorrow afternoon with Benji and some other TEAS piggies but will be gone by the time you are there. Good luck, I am sure Simon will sort out the problem and your little guys will be feeling much better soon xx
