Castration, Should They Eat?

Absolutely scrumptious piggies. I hope they are soon feeling bright as a button again.

Have just caught up with what you and your piggies have been through - such a terrible experience for all of you. Hope they get better soonest!

Hope the visit to Simon goes well tonight. I can vouch for him being great with piggies. I can't help but think my Squeak might still be here if he'd not been on holiday.

Another Simon fan here! He and Kim are excellent piggie vets!Theyve helped so much with my bunnies complicated health issues too.
Your piggies are beautiful:luv:

Hope everything went well & Simon has sorted things once & for all. Thinking of you to Kirsty you've been through such a lot. Hugs coming your way.

Hi everyone!
Thanks for all your well wishes. I'm back from Northampton and seeing Simon. Simon has said that he cannot see any visible reasons why they are sqeeking in pain etc, and is contemplating whether the antibiotic is making them feel abit yukky! So, he has asked me to stop the antibiotic and has lowered by half there metaclopromide, and has kept the same dose of loxicom. He feels that the antibiotic is not necessary and could actually be what's causing them to be lethargic and not want to eat etc, I then have to call him on Monday and let him no if they have perked up a little! If not, then further investigation will be needed such as checking for bladder stones etc!

I didn't expect to leave the vets coming home with less medication so that was a shock! But I'm confident he knows his stuff, and what he said made sense.

He did notice a bit of gritty white sand stuff (can't remember the name) came out of biscuit, and he has advised me to give water with their syringe feeding to help flush that through, as that could be causing him some pain!

So, random! But I'm pleased I went, and hopefully things will get better. Strangely Buttons has come out to eat hay at the moment.. first time in 10 days!

thanks everyone, will keep everyone updated! And I'm glad you all like their pig-tures :)

One thing I really like about Simon and Kim is that they will reduce medication or not give you any. My personal thought is that sometimes too much medication is used and it could be contributing to the problem.

So don't worry about having less meds. Simon is really reasonable so when you speak to him on Monday he'll reassess whether the doses are right.

IMG_3556.webp Hi everyone.
What do you all think of this pic? When I was syringe feeding biscuit I noticed this random pink lump where his Greece gland is, then when he was tensing to go for a wee, he went, then it like was smaller?
I was thinking bladder stone, but surely BOTH my guinea pigs can't have developed a bladder stone at the same time? I haven't noticed a lump on buttons like this yet.

Biscuit is REALLY squeaking tonight, I've just given him some pain meds.

Noticed a small pink mark on biscuit bedding this morning! So I have put a white towel under his bed to see if he defiantly is bleeding. This is never ending guys ;(

I don't think that's anything to worry about. A bladder stone wouldn't show in that way. Are they maintaining weight?

Loosing but I have stepped up with more syringe feeding now! I'm worried about the blood ;(

Hiya I rang Simon yesturday and he suggested that the small blood in the urine was most likely where he was squeezing them etc when they went to the vets! And by the looks of it he was probably right, as I haven't seen any red marks since Which is good! They are both still squealing when they go to the toilet but I have to update Simon on Monday! I was thinking earlier that I live in a hard water area where the PH of the water is like 8! so I was wondering what the best thing to do is? Should I buy a brita filter? Would that help to minimise the chances of bladder stones etc.

I have never had a piggy with bladder issues and I give water straight from the tap. However, they are fed a mainly hay and grass diet, with a small amount of veg once a day and nuggets as a treat. Are they both eating well now? x

They are eating more themselves, still supported by syringing as they aren't eating quite enough. They seemed to have perked up abit now, but still in pain when they go to the toilet

In such a conundrum, my pigs have ran out of loxicom and I'm waiting for Simon to ring me regarding the next steps for them :( now I'm worried there not going to have any pain relief tonight

Hi everyone! So, after a massive row with pets at home vets for pets yesterday (they wouldn't accept a prescription as they wanted 24hours notice) I finally got the metacam! Pigs are both much more Perkier and actually I haven't had to syringe feed them today as I have seen them eat lots, they have taken a shine to a dandelion mix I got them yesturday too! As I heard it helps them urinate frequently which is what Simon has said they need to do to "wash out" whatever the problem is! I left it until 8oclock before I gave them some metacam today as I wanted to hear if they are still squeaking in pain when going to the toilet, and there was only a couple squeaks which is better than previously! So I'm hoping this is getting better! I have brought a brita filter and they are now on filtered water as I live in a hard water area and I never new that could cause problems! I am also keeping them on a minimal calcium diet, so all the veg I am giving them is low or has no calcium in it! As biscuit had gritty texture in his bowels which Simon emptied so I did my research and that's what was recommended! I haven't weighed them yet as i need to ring the vet to find out how much they were originally, but they don't feel as bony which is good!

I even saw Buttons popcorn yesturday

Anyway that's just a little update. Spoke to Simon yesturday and he has advised that I carry on with the loxicom and syringe water and come off the metaclopromide. I have to update him again on Friday!

Although the journey is not yet over, and It's been the longest journey ever but I'm really hoping things will get better now, couldn't have done it without the continued support of this forum, xx

Great that things are slowly improving and you were able to get the pain relief from your local vets. Am another Simon and Kim fan. They are both helping my Maud at the moment with her sludgy bladder.

IMG_3583.webp IMG_3582.webp Erm everyone I'm really grossed out/ concerned! So I notice this "thing" coming out of buttons.. then he gives his bum a little nibble and this comes out?! it absolutely STINKS! any ideas what it is?

Oh my goodness that's probably why he was uncomfortable! Can you send the pic by email to Simon & ask him ? It could be a sperm rod but it is huge !

I didn't magnify it, but it's about the size of a 5pence?! A sperm rod, what on earth. Never heard of that before!
