Yesterday I ran out of Timothy Hay so went to the pet shop to get some more. Only problem is the local pet shop in Partick is quite small and deals mostly with reptiles and aquatics so there's very little for other pets, especially small pets such as Piggies and hamsters etc. So I ask the guy behind the counter if he has any hay for guinea pigs and he says yeah and goes to get it. First of all it's burgess hay so I know it's a good brand and my two have had Burgess before, but it's not Timothy hay. Nevertheless I get it (only one the guy has apart from bedding hay).

I get home and made some observations: first of all it's marigold and Dandelion, they like it but thee's dried Dandelion heads in it, which they pull out and leave at the side. Conclusion; they don't like dandelion heads. Second of all, they took to the hay right away. Conclusion; they're not fussy except when it comes to treats.

Just a wee blog-type post to keep y'all updated.

I'm also hoping I can find a dedicated all animal local pet shop as my nearest Pets at homes in Glasgow are the same amount of travel time away from my house but in opposite directions and I can't be doing an hour run (30 mins there and back) everytime the piggies need something like hay cause it was £6.49 for that 1kg of Burgess! oy vey.

Mine get the burgess with marigold and dandelion regularly but from Amazon its usually less than £15 for 3 bags. I always buy hay online, Supreme Selective timothy hay and Pillow Wad meadow hay are good from Amazon too and you can get the "subscribe and save" discount if you order enough stuff like pellets and floor substrate every month too!

I've raved about this company a lot on here, but will always recommend Timothyhay.co.uk
Beautiful fresh, green hay, that is soft and smells divine 😍 9kg bag for £22, grown in central Scotland, and I live in the south east, arrives next day with free delivery! Just cannot complain. They are however closed until 9th of Jan for Christmas and my piggies are running low so I'm going to have to purchase some from either pets and home or the range :(

This sounds ideal for me, 9kg would honestly do me month to month. Thanks! :)

I've seen people request a sample from the seller too to make sure their piggy will eat it, but with how green it is I don't think I've actually seen a post where someone has said their pig doesn't like it 😂 With 4 guinea pigs, 9kg lasts me around a month and a half, however when I had just two, I purchased some late July and didn't need anymore until early November. I find my two new rescues are quite wasteful with it, they only want the freshest out the bag, so I end up throwing quite a bit away from them. That's just an idea of how long it does last.

You can also purchase 18kg and save yourself £4 in total, I would do this but I simply don't have the storage space for this quantity, warning, the bags are rather large 😂
