This is a straight forward guide to syringe feeding your piggy - really helped me when my boar was poorly recently for three long weeks and refused to eat zero. Cystitis, diarrhoea from the antibiotics, pain relief that suppressed his appetite, it was a very worrying time but with help, we got him through it :))
Lots of fluids and I gave small amounts of Dioralyte to rehydrate him. He's now bouncing around and stuffing his face (this time last week, we really didn't think he'd see the weekend :0) I know what you are going through.
Keep Cookie's little system moving and she will have a really good chance of a full recovery. Keep us posted, people will always help on here x>>

I'm going to try syringe feeding her with the pellets. She's been out walking around the cage and has been nibbling on the hay again and drinking water. Will let you all know how I get on later xx

I weighed Cookie again and she has gone from 525g down to 430g. She just looks so skinny now, I'm really worried about her. I managed to syringe feed her a little of the food but she got fed up and started biting me. Should I leave it until the morning or keep trying during the night?
I also noticed that when she was doing a poo she was making a kind of rasping/wheezing noise. I have an appointment for the vet on tuesday but I'm not sure if I should leave it that long.

Read in a Peter Gurney book that you can give Imodium syrup which is used for humans when they have a runny bot. Not sure of the amount a must to check though before considering administering. Ideally a savy vet would be cool. Best of luck

It would be best to keep trying during the night, if you're able. Make sure there is food available to eat if she wants to do so of her own accord, as well.

Good luck xx

with either problem cookies gut is going to be rather sore and not working particularily well which would be why she is reluctant to eat, however the good news is the solid poos that are forming which means the intestines are still working well.

I would see how much she weighs tomorrow (bit late back tonight) and if she is still dropping weight then phone the vets at least, sometimes I have done this when pepper (not a pig I know) has been very poorly with dire rear, if they felt it was vital enough I would have got her in but just talking things over does help sometimes (as long as the vets dont fob you off of course).

Will keep my fingers crossed that cookie picks up her appitite a bit more for you.

I'd go back to the vets? I am paranoid I grant you but the worst that can happen is they think you are nuts for worrying.

I can't stand it when they are ill, any pet, just so bloody worrying! (or person for that matter, but at least they can mostly give some clue of where it hurts!)

Hope she eats some more tonight and is perky in the morning
x

I will keep up the syringe feeding. She has food and hay in the cage if she's well enough to eat during the night. Will probably have to take her back to the vet tomorrow, I would hate to take the chance of leaving it too long.

Also syringe her extra water :)
Whee will have all paws, claws and fingers crossed for tiny little Cookie XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Cookie has perked up a bit today. I syringe fed her with some food and water during the night and she's been walking about the cage and nibbling on some hay. Will try her with some more food soon.

I was reading the news this morning about the German Ecoli scare from salad imported from spain. I had fed cookie some pre-packed salad the day before she bacame ill. I bought it from Tesco so not sure where it was imported from. Does anyone else think that could have caused her illness?
She's still not eating much but she is drinking a little. She's not lost any more weight. She's biting alot so not sure if that's because she's in pain or if she's just annoyed with me!

Washing pre packaged salad is always recommended, trouble is you have no idea really where it is from :{ it is SUPPOSED to say on the package the origin....... ?
Wishing little Cookie all the best, at least she's now drinking :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Get the critical care or science recovery (not sure what you're giving her) into her, it has so many essential ingredients for her.

I binned the packaging but will check the origin when I'm in the shop later. Where can I get the critical care? I'm just feeding her the mashed pellets and giving her water with probiotic. Providing her with hay and the Burgess Excel timothy hay with dandelion and marigold. She's nibbling at it but she's not overly keen.

critical care or science recovery are all available from the vets :)
mashed up pellets are good too!

If you have problems getting any of these post about it and i'm sure someone local to you will help x
