Found blood in the run today, so thought Treacle's UTI/cystitis was getting worse.. Took her out, got a sample and she was fine, no visible blood. So got Cookie out and after 11mls of water (thirsty piggie) we had blood :( She's had some of Treacle's Septrin and I'll be getting her sorted at the vets tomorrow.

At least this points out to it just been a stubborn UTI with Treacle as opposed to stones as Cookie has most probably caught the infection Treacy has. So a house of 3 poorly piggies at moment...

Oh what bad luck. I had no idea it was contagious! I really hope Cookie recovers soon.

I'd never thought about it before, I'm taking a guess UTI's can be, I suppose it's bacteria that can be picked up because they are close to the ground and if one has it there's a possibility the other could...

The plus side is she is eating well and her normal bonkers self... The dizzy rascal song always reminds me of her, she is a nutter, always on the go... She just ran off with the syringe of water :))

Lol that sounds funny! I am not 'with it' enough to have heard of that song, I am afraid!

The syringe thief!

Thanks for all your vibes x

Sending our thoughts over to you and the piggies send plenty of get well wheeks.

Fortunately Twinkle hasn't had any blood in her wee and we think her cystitis is down to an over active (and rough) Astro. First time we have had any bladder issues in 4 years with sows.

HEALING WHEEEEEEEEEEEKS FOR YOU DARLING COOKIE XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Poor baby :( But fab to hear she's so good at taking (literally :(|) ) her syringes rolleyesx)x)

Cookie is bright this morning, but still blood spots in her cage... :( Got apt at 4:30pm but not with our usual vet unfortuantely.....
Gonna get some AB's and see how she goes, pleased both Cookie and treacy Bum are bright- but hate seeing them in pain when weeing :(

Oh how awful for them, i never knew it was contagious either, obviously something to bear in mind for if ever we have this problem (touch wood we won't)

Lots of loves and cuddles girlies x

I don't know if it is! But it's the only thing I can think of or it's a coincidence... Will pass the piggie cuddles on to them x

It makes sense, surely it would be too much of a coincidence for them both to fall with it at the same time otherwise? Perhaps the vet could tell you xx

Yeah, I'll be asking that, be interesting to know..

Sending poor Cookie and Treacle healing vibes! UTI can be transmitted; the bacteria is usually picked up via the urethra. I have had this happen with mine a few years ago.

Make sure that you wash any piggy stuff at high temperatures for the duration and afterwards on a regular basis and change as frequently as possible. One of the disadvantages of fleece is that UTI bacteria can be transmitted better than not re-used bedding.

In the case of UTI I would also recommend to give some mild diuretic like a generous helping of dandelion in order to flush out the bacteria as quickly as possible at the beginning of the treatment. The use of diuretics is more common in Germany than in the English speaking world. I use some herbal tea from Switzerland.

I hope Cookie and Treacle are feeling better soon and that your vets appointment goes well.
I have myself a syringe stealer as well, or should I say syringe flinger. She likes to grab the syringe and chuck it over her shoulder if she doesn't want any more.
With regards to it being contagious, both Esme and Ruby were treated for UTIs initially and the vet I saw said they may have passed it on to each other. I'm not sure how true that would be, as that wasn't a specialised vets.

Healing vibes Cookie and Treacle! x

Thanks for that info on tranmsion and diuretic, luckily Cookie adores Avipro-plus in water, so have no probs flushing her out :)) They are bedded on wood shavings, but are often in their run which is a big curtain.. Am now washing this at 70 degree after each use.... Hope all your gang are getting recovering from mites now x
