You've all heard the line "never teach your grandmother to suck eggs", right? (Always thought that a particularly disgusting image but, I digress). Well, I have been *attempting* to teach my guinea pig to eat Corn-on-the-Cob! I made some beautiful Corn Cobs yesterday. Boiled them for over an hour until they were plump, juicy & delicious. However, when I set one of them, properly cooled, in Freddie's bowl he just looked at it, sniffed, and ignored it! Oooh, I was peeved ... but then I thought: 'hang on; perhaps this wee chap has never been given corn this way before, and doesn't understand what to do with it'. So, I plucked a few pieces off and hand-fed them to him: "this is your dinner, Freddie", I encouraged, smiling at him. He took them from me, gave an indifferent "oh well just to please you" kinda munch, and then spat the kernals out! Grrrr. "Frederick", I said sternly, "this is your dinner. It's lovely. I prepared it especially for you. This is how you eat it!" I then got another Corn Cob and sat gnawing on it in front of him (how I know they were delicious, btw!). Oh what a picture ... me, eating corn, messily, from my hands, dripping juice, and Freddie, lazily watching me, but eating hay! Streuth! I left his Corn in his bowl, with my cleaned husk beside it by way of example, and retired in defeat. Ahh, 'fun & frolics with Freddie' - I could write a book! 😂🌽 Questions: do guinea pigs not like corn? What did I do wrong?

It was likely because it was cooked XD it is a huge favourite of piggies when raw. All 10 of mine adore the little bit of corn on the cob!

Yes -guinea pigs like corn but as @Eriathwen said - not cooked.
Mine like raw baby corn which they get as an occasional treat

Looking forward to your book:D

Agree with the above. By all means cook it for yourself but not for your piggies. Pop one in uncooked and I'm sure they will gobble it up

Mine adore raw corn on the cob. In September when it is nice and fresh and relatively cheap (especially cheap at Lidl!) they loved the the outer leaves and the silks too!

Gottcha. Thanks for the advice. 😊

Ohhhh, I didn't realise! Thank you. Duly noted. Freddie thanks you! 😊

You're welcome Freddie! You should have seen the faces on my pigs when I tried to make them popcorn from those dried baby corn things from the petshop when I first got piggies.. very much an expression of 'what on earth do you expect me to do with this!?' little did I know they probably shouldnt really eat those :lol!: its all part of the fun!
