COVID-19 Coronavirus

Of course it hasn't worked yet! These people that have died have already had the virus. It's not a miracle, it's not going to work in the space of 24 hours! Eileen has already said above that the NHS expects to hit the top of the curve in 10 days. That's why the lockdowns in place for 3 weeks at least
Ok good 😓. I'm gona log off, wish you all the best, my panic is getting me in bother on here. All the best everyone 👋

@SkyPipDotBernie don't leave us. We are all in a panic...

@Claire W have a virtual hug. I know it's not the same.

Here, we don't know what to do today. Lazy day inside or tackle the back garden? I feel like the garden may win, we can avoid each other, get some sun & fresh air all in one.
We both feel well - mum is very nearly over the cold that has lingered for weeks & I'm just tired. Been waking up at 6, my usual getting up time for work. My throat is still red but doesnt hurt anymore (after about 6 weeks!).

Hope everyone is ok today.

It's easy to think like that. They were explaining on this morning yesterday that it will take time. They want to slow it down as much as they can but that will take time.

It will probably take the full 3 weeks to see a noticeable difference- anyone infected just before the new restrictions may not show symptoms for 2 weeks, then they may be ill or infectious for a week... so 3 weeks before we might hope to see beneficial effects and a drop in infections!

One of our friends phoned earlier and said she's seen a load of drones flying over, don't know where she lives exactly but I'm assuming these are for watching areas like this for people just hanging out in groups

I suspect this is more likely a lot of very bored kids cracking out their christmas presents tbh. If you can't go out, slap a go pro on the bottom of a drone and you can at least go for a virtual walk!

Shopping is becoming a nightmare, food sourcing is becoming my full time job and I am getting heartily sick of it. Everyone in my immediate sphere is either high risk, in total 12 week lockdown, or is locked down because they live with someone high risk or in lockdown, so none of us can go to the shops. Online is our only option and it's just hellish. Plus side, all the supermarkets are now opening up more slots, which should take the edge off things a bit for everyone. I know they're also delivering later in the day now too, up to 11.30pm for Morrisons anyway, which should also help. The essentials box from them is also a great idea, but sadly the website is drowning under demand, which is not ideal. I'm hoping they up their ability to cope with the bandwidth a bit.

Friendly reminder to anyone with a few spare quid that foodbanks are getting desperate and really need donations of all kinds now. There are a lot of people (as has been mentioned in this thread) that don't have the spare cash to stock up and are really struggling to feed their kids and themselves at the moment.

For those struggling, there are now several GOOD NEWS stories you could check to help you see there's not all doom and gloom in this:
25 positive stories from Elle
Good new stories from Yahoo
LA Times article from a Nobel Laureate on the pandemic's likely time table

There is also an interesting paper just released from Oxford uni that postulates that the virus may have actually been in the UK for a far longer period than imagined, and causing far less symptoms, peaking within the next few weeks having already infected around half the population with minimal effect. It does contain a lot of large unknowns though and will rely on the anti-body test to demonstrate just how many of us have had it and never realised. Still, it's an interesting and well thought out read, certainly anecdotal evidence from people I know would back it up too, but until we get the tests, we're not going to know for sure.

There is so much backlash about this online. Saying that it's unfair he got a test when frontline workers don't get one unless they display symptoms. This isn't about being royalty it's about someone over 70 (so in an at risk group) displaying symptoms and receiving a test. A lot of people are getting hung up on famous people getting tested but as far as I can see all those that have been have had symptoms and a reason to be tested

I agree, given that the chap is over 70 and also probably has lots of people who work for him that he won't want to infect or sack, I think getting tested is a sensible precaution- also if a famous person tests positive, it firstly removes some of the stigma, also makes the risk more believable for all the folks who assume it wont happen to them!

I would agree as I’m sure now that what I thought was just a really, really bad cold in December was the first incarnation of Covid-19

I wonder if I bought one, could I fly it all the way to Cornwall!?I imagine it'd run out of battery an hour later lol. I'd love to be at the beach right now.

@Fweeper thanks for the good news/positive stories. I will take a look at them later.

I have been reading a lot on facebook about the possibility of the virus being around since December & people already having it but because it wasn't known about, it was put down to bad colds/ slight flu. I look at how bad my mum was with her chest infection at Christmas, to which the lingering cold/snot has only just gone, just about (sorry!) It does make me wonder as yes she has an underlying condition, gets flu jab every year but is generally fit and well. She gets the odd cold/ cough each year but this floored her & three months its taken to shift.

When/how will they do an antibody test & what will the criteria be for this? I imagine this could be some time away....

I was shocked to see Prince Charles has tested positive. I know the Royals are just people like rest of us but I do quite like some of them. I wouldn't wish them to be ill.

Mum is currently having a meltdown because she hasn't bought any of us an Easter egg & we got my nephew some clothes for Easter which by time we get to see them he may not fit into ☹

I think cos we're all feeling scared and anxious when we see new cases daily we panic but it's expected at the moment.
Yea most probably. I'm gona get off here and sign up to the NHS voluntary delivery of prescriptions to high risk people. See if I can do that. Sort of ummkng and arring about it right now. But I want to do it. Got a car sitting here doing nothing with a full tank of petrol. May aswell use it for some good

It was a relief to go imto town this morning and buy veg from thenmarket. There was plenty.
I went into aldi early this morning and they were well stocked apart from no toilet roll and not many toiletries. I managed to get a lot of veg for the pigs and some stuff for myself which I was happy about.

I'm sure they'd really appreciate it at the moment. Make sure you do come back on and see us when you have time though :)

Yea I will 👍. There's probably loads doing it that I won't be able to. I'll see what happens
I know 170000 have signed up to help the NHS which is brilliant but I know they're hoping for 250000.Things like delivering prescriptions they'll definitely need people for that.

How will it work? Through my phone and just keep going to pharmacies and then dropping off to postcodes. I don't want to do anywhere too far from home. I guess il find out when I check

Three weeks in lockdown is what we were ordered to do here in Michigan.
It now makes sense because the symptoms should show by that time and make it more obvious who has got it and who doesn’t. People who need help and who doesn’t need help will become more visible by the end of three weeks of lockdown.

@Gem789 I know, me too! There are some webcams you can use to watch the beautiful sea though! Here: Cornish Webcams Hope that helps! :D

@Sar More than welcome, hopefully they bring you some light in the dark too :)

As for the antibody test, it's already been put forward but obviously at the moment science and the government is concentrating more on working on the possible treatment drugs. I would imagine the antibody test will be coming though, it's a useful tool for the NHS staff wanting to know if they're safe to go back to work if nothing else.

I just read that places allowed to stay open during this like supermarket's have to enforce the 2 metre rule. I have been told my local tescos is doing this but when I went to aldi earlier there were no rules in place. I tried to keep my distance from others but this wasn't enforced and at the till there were no measures in place. Even customers were very close having a chat with the checkout person. Should this be allowed?

Thanks for that, I'll definitely watch them x

Was the same in my local co op a little while ago when I popped in, they do have signs up and have sticky-taped markings on the floor but no one else seemed to pay attention and I was trying to get away from a couple that seemed to want to get as close as possible! Made me very paranoid! x
