COVID-19 Coronavirus

Sorry you are going through this, but please rest assured that your vet will not allow your cat to suffer.
Most vets will put special procedures in place based on various factors, but they will still be available for essential and emergency treatments.
I am sure your cat will continue to receive the treatment that he needs, and if not your vets will be able to offer advice on how best to manage the situation to ensure he doesn't suffer.
Thinking of you.
Thank you x

Hello. Not been on here for a long time but have been following this thread. Just rung my vet on ooh number as have appt at 9.00 tomorrow to see if they will be open. They don't know as waiting advice from big bosses. Will ring again in morning. I take my very old cat every month for check up and steroid inj. He has several problems the most severe being liver failure and only has a few weeks left. This is my worst fear becoming a reality. If vets have to shut he will die a slow death. If they are open tomorrow I may have to decide to pts to avoid suffering if things get even worse. I am shaking and feel sick. 😭😭😭
I'm so sorry your in this position, sending hugs 💔

I think vets will be allowed to treat emergencies and contiue with life saving appts/ medication. You will probably have to wait in the vet car park while they see him but I think it will still be possible. Hope thats right.

I hope so too. Had already arranged to stay in the carpark. I hope they are open.

Just seen on Twitter from Tom Newton-Dunn (political editor of The Sun, a paper I wouldn't normally link to but oh well) a list of things that are staying open:
All roads and rail lines, so workers can get to and from work if they can't work from home
Supermarkets, pharmacies, vets, pet shops, hardware stores, newsagents, petrol stations, banks, post offices, laundrettes and undertakers

As others have said, a lot of vets have already posted their new guidelines, so you need to check with your vet as to how they are now functioning.
Best wishes and best of luck @Pound Shilling & Pig to you and your cat x

Does anyone know. Do I have the rights to tell my workplace that I'm staying at home because my wife has asthma, she's not allowed to work. And I'm fearing bringing corona back to her. I work outdoors around all parts of UK

If the panic buying at least stops and we can rely on being able to get what we need in the shops that would take some pressure off.

I'm self employed as so many are. Boris needs to let us know his plans are asap now that I cant go to work. Its a lot of organisation but "hurry up Boris!"

  • I've tried to keep everyone updated on government action thus far, but it's a bit too wide ranging to type out, so the following should be of use:
Five things that will now be banned

The specific legislation is now quite fragmented, but you should be able to find current Acts at Legislation.gov.uk and potential future Acts at Bills before Parliament 2019-21 — UK Parliament. These measures will vary between Englands, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The main points from the PM were:
  • All retail outlets selling non-essential goods (i.e. general consumer goods, not needed for survival) are to close.
  • All public places to close, including libraries, playgrounds, places of worship etc - although parks will generally remain open, but not the parts where people are likely to congregate - e.g. - playgrounds, skateparks etc.
  • No more than two people may gather anywhere, unless they're at home and living together.
  • Weddings and christenings (and equivalent) banned, funerals to proceed for now.
  • Most parks will remain open, but no gatherings of more than two people, for now.
You may travel out of home if:
  1. You are shopping for basic necessities
  2. If you are going to a pharmacy or other medical reason, or if you are providing care to a vulnerable person.
  3. Traveling to and from work, but only where absolutely necessary - expect many companies to suddenly realise that it isn't.
  4. Exercise is classed as a medical reason, but this should be alone or with no more than one other person, must be once per day - and preferably should be around 30 minutes a day.

I'm doing shopping for an elderly couple. They live about 20 mins away from me.They will leave bags and a list on their doorstep and I will leave the bought shopping on their doorstep and ring to tell them its there. They will pay me by BACS.I'm assuming this is ok?

The issue with it is the requirement for you to give them your bank details. If you're comfortable with that, then doing shopping for them that way is better than them doing it themselves. I'd get two copies of the receipt though, if you can - one for you, and one for them.

Thank you. Ive know them for years so have no problem with giving them my bank details.:)

Michigan is now in lockdown and not allowed to leave the house unless absolutely necessary.
Governor Whitmer announced that if we don’t go into lockdown, we will be similar to Italy in a very short time.
Over a thousand Michiganders were tested positive with about 15 people dying from COVID19. This number will continue to go up if we don’t shut down according to the governor.

Have spoken to my vet practice just now. They are open for emergencies. Also receiving lots of calls from worried owners and working out how best to help them. As Gingerbread is well in himself I will not be going today but my vet will ring me later to discuss where we go from here.

Garage called me this morning just after I had set off to get my car’s MOT.
They are closed now.
Fortunately I hadn’t gone far before I could stop and check the message.
However - what happens now?
I am classed as a key worker and will need my car occasionally.
No guidance yet for those who will not be able to get MOTs.

Any ideas @BossHogg ?

my local radio has said this morning that testing centres can stay open. Is there an othe r garage you can go to?

Feeling a bit jittery today. Feel absolutely fine in myself however I think it is knowing I can make my own schedule for the next few weeks. I want to make it count, do all the odd jobs I can rarely fit in between work, catch up on TV programmes I have recorded. I'm a couple of years behind on my scrapbook so I can start printing pictures & writing fot that....

First thing I am going to do is put my painting clothes on & paint the fence in the sunshine!

My car is due it’s MOT on Thursday. I’ve rang this morning and he said he’s staying open but I’m still worried.

I haven’t a poorly animal thank goodness but I’m also worried about vet practices.

Is there another garage you could try @Merab's Slave?

I've been out to work to drop the van off and lock it away this morning, met a few colleagues doing the same. We have all had a little meeting in the factory. Nothing serious, but we were all saying, there are still loads of people out doing what they shouldn't be, we will go in to full lockdown if this carries on. People are still not listening. I think the rules will tighten up tonight, I've heard from a few people that the London trains are still quite busy

Of course the trains are busy because some bright spark has reduced the services so cramming more people onto less frequent, smaller trains! And how many of those are going to work in high risk environments squeezing up against people that really could be at home? Sigh.

I agree. Someone who works at recycling centre just rang local radio to say cars are queuing to get in and people are standing around chatting:mal::mal::mal: he wants them to stop! For now my go waste is staying in the garden.

Great idea I want to do the same but right now my head is all over the place

Depending on where you live, vets are considered an essential service and will undoubtedly stay open, as will things like pet shops, so don't worry too much about the animals in your life. I also know a lot of local pet shops are offering delivery services for those who need it, so it may be worth asking them. In rural areas, vets and feed shops will undoubtedly remain open fully because they're keeping the farms running.

Much love to all today, I for one am tired and getting increasingly fed up with the lack of availability of food and basic supplies. I'm hoping something is done about the chaos of that generally because at this point, you can't even call it panic buying, people are just trying to feed their families.

I’ve pretty much lost my job now. But my boss is still trying to get me to work here and then to help me out with money until the cafe is forced to shut..however I don’t think it’s sensible to be open even just for takeaways, it’s too risky. I don’t want to catch it and I especially don’t want to pass it on. Hmm.

My main stress is my family in the U.K. my mum seems so upset and anxious, my 4 sisters have families to support and they seem to be getting caught up in all the mass panic. I’m fortunate that I live on a 150acre property in Australia in the middle of nowhere so if and when I completely stop working I can enjoy the farm, horses and nature. I wish my family where all here with me. I wish my mum wasn’t so upset, she thinks her and dad are going to die and/or never see me again! STUPID rumours and media causing such panic. 😭
