COVID-19 Coronavirus

Here's the number for CMHT. They support people with bipolar. This number is Mon to Frid. I would contact them to work with them to manage risk anyway. They cover health but can let you know what's available.

I'll juse get the social care number now

Community mental health teams
There are four teams in Barnsley that care for adults over 16 years of age who are experiencing acute or long term mental health problems.

The teams include community psychiatric nurses (sometimes referred to as CPNs), social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists, support workers, counsellors, cognitive analytical therapists, psychotherapists and cognitive behavioural psychotherapists.

The teams are organised by GP and area and are open between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. There is a single point of access for new referrals on (01226) 645000.

If we accept your referral, we'll send you an appointment to come for an initial screening to determine the kind of support that you need. If you're referred to a community mental health team by a professional, you'll need to be aware of and agreeable to it or we won't accept the referral.

Barnsley Covid 19 mutual aid network

This is the volunteer group for Barsnley on Facebook, these have just sprung up all over the country with people offering to get shopping.

There's an Age Concern number for Barnsley, you can ask general advice. Your step Dad might be eligible for more help.

thank you so so much I appreciate the time and effort you’ve gone to for us. Going to try some of these options, didn’t know they existed until now

Just gave her a ring and she said her CPN has been in touch and as soon as she gets a letter to say she’s vulnerable and can’t go out for herself then she can ask people in the village, there’s a list of people our village have made which I didn’t know about so she should be sorted. I find it weird how she needs a letter but at least it’ll get done. Will keep these sites just in case, thank you so much again

She’s a panic buyer when there isn’t a pandemic so I’m thinking she’ll be ok. Wish she’d of been more clear she made me think she was going to go without :(

I had a relative like this. They would say they were "running low" but still have two weeks worth of food in.

I hope everyone is well and has things to keep busy with. Try have good weekend....

I’m in panic every other day with how she is reacting, I don’t blame her as I know how her mental illness makes her see things and the state of things right now is making everybody panic. Just wish she would be clear. Hope you’re doing well as well, have a good weekend 😊

Yes supporting parents from a distance when they're not clear is a worry! They're lucky you're so caring. With her having the letter she'll be looked after.

Not sure where to post this: I’m in America right now and my mum can’t go out to get her shopping as she’s very vulnerable and my stepdad is very old. Apparently they’re going to get letters to say that they’re vulnerable so they can have people shop for them? But don’t know how long these will take and apparently online shopping is next to impossible. What are people here doing in terms of this? She doesn’t know anybody who can shop for her currently
There a number of community initiatives springing up all over which are designed to help those who do not have anyone to get shopping or help in any way.
It is highly likely that there is something similar where your mum is.
Try contacting the local council who will most likely know what is happening in their area.

In other news daddy pig did a quick run out to pick up medicines for babybelle and princess today, princess decided to have a little flare up this week and wasnt moving much, showing pain signs and her appetite was reduced which is definitely not normal for her. Quick email to the vets and got the OK to up her tramadol to 0.2ml 3x a day, it's the 100mg per ml liquid so if my maths are correct that means she's on 20mg 3x a day, seems to be helping thankfully she's back to eating normally 😁 from reading forum posts this does seem a large dose but like I said she's palliative and its more important she is comfortable, and now laser therapy is cancelled for the forseeable I'm hoping this will see us through to the end of lockdown 🤞🤞🤞

Is that the best use of resources? It is already blanket news everywhere! I do get the idea of it and I suppose some people won't get it and follow instructions until they have it written in black/white in front of them. I guess I can keep it for my scrapbook....

I don't even know if mum will get a letter saying she has to stay in 12 weeks. It's definitely a waiting game!

I have recently heard that this lockdown could go on for months that this isn’t something that would go away soon.
I can’t imagine what the country would look like with people not being able to work for months. Government is giving a little bit of money to the citizens of US to sustain but they can’t continue to do that repeatedly.

Someone has just shared a Daily Mail article on my facebook, something about staying in for months. I didn't read it but I imagine it says lockdowm will last x amount of months. The state of the country after this does worry me slightly but then the world is going to be in a state too. I just hope things do work out eventually and we have our health and can reunite with friends/family, go back to work and some form of normal.

This is day nine of being in for me, by the end of today I will have survived one whole week at home (I'm not counting last weekend as I expected to be working last week). I float between a state of panic/dread & a state of "we can do this". Mum and I are asking each other 20 times a day "do you feel ok?" however both of us hate asking in case the other has developed a symptom or something, so not sure this is for the best.

No it will only make you more anxious keep asking that. I also had something sent to me by a friend that said the lock down could last until June and while that could be true, I'm not gonna listen to maybes. I'll wait till I hear it from the government.

I agree, everyone knows the rules so why send a letter? I think if people keep ignoring the rules then police should be able to use more force.
Northampton police has put on their website that they are getting a high volume of calls, reporting people breaking the lockdown rules, and then the police have gone on to write, if you think we will be turning up with blue lights and a siren on, you're wrong. We want to educate people first. So obviously the governemt lockdown rules watched by millions, was not enough to get through to some people. Basicly the kids near me all from different families are outside playing together but I can't report it because nothing will get done. The first time where kids playing online gaming is the best thing to do and stay out of trouble, and now they want to be outside.

I have just watched a very interesting video on youtube where the chief medical scientist from South Korea was interviewed. They have tackled the pandemic amazingly well with a very low death rate in comparison to other countries. They learned their lessons from the Sars , Mers and swine flue epidemics. All the population wear medical grade masks. The scientist said that WHO did not recommend the wearing of these masks as necessary as they knew there would not be enough to go around all medical staff around the world if they did as there would be panic buying. They do make a big difference as the statistics in South Korea testify. They were also prepared with hundreds of thousands of coronavirus tests and are busy testing everyone, again learning from their experience with past corona viruses. I hope we can learn some lessons from them for any future problems.

Just had a minor panic. Someone on my work group chat said they are stopping selling alcohol as lowers immunity. I won't tell you how many people believed her & nearly ran to the shop to stock up!

Things are going to get worse before they get better. We know that. I don't know how worse things can get.... Not sure I want to know. Anyone watched any Government updates this weekend? Anything new?

I'm deliberately avoiding anything negative, I've read quite a few survivors stories on Facebook which seem positive though 😊

My anxiety level is telling me that this is as bad as things will get and by talking and letting it out is helping me deal with this.

In the early 1960s The Seekers recorded a song called Turn, Turn, Turn which is based on Ecclesiastes chapter 3.
There is a season for everything under the sun - everything will pass in time - that includes this current situation.
Hang on in there and I hope you will always find a safe place here to express anxieties and find support

The US lockdown just got extended through April 30th.
Can’t say enough about how everyone needs to go back to work. The economy won’t sustain if lockdown continues to be extended.
