Correx And Puppy Pads

i moved my boys to a c&c today, but they’ve already started chewing on the correx I also set up a ‘kitchen’ area in which I initially put shavings on top of puppy pads, but changed my mind envisioning the mess - when they run they kick up shavings. Now toffee keeps chewing on the puppy pads so I’ve had to put shavings in.

Question, how can I stop then chewing on the correx? And what alternative can I use for the kitchen area? Below is a pic so you see the current layout. TIA!

It should be okay for guinea pigs to chew on coroplast. If you don’t want the coroplast to be chewed on, though, you could cover it with a hay rack or something.

Paper binders can be fitted along the edges of the correx to stop them chewing. I would also go with fleece on top of the puppy pads rather than the shavings, but that is a matter of choice.

You could always swap it with a litter trays or put a hanging chew to distract them.

Thanks for the ideas. @Reenie I hadn't thought of fleece on top of the puppy pads! I'll be doing that as have some scraps I can use. @Misty the litter tray would have to be the size of the correx that I'm currently using as I want them to be sat in it as they eat/drink so poo and wee goes in there while they're feeding. And to be honest I don't want to spend money on another litter tray - they need more bedding and some hides/beds. Maybe in future if I find one that's the right size I may get it, I'll see how I get along with fleece and puppy pads for now.

I tried to swap newspaper for puppy pads and my girls were chewing the pads, so I opted for a thin layer of newspaper over the pads. It works a treat and they haven't chewed the pads since! I don't use shavings because they are messy - just pads, then newspaper, then a thick covering of hay.

@Cocochanel4 do you change the hay our daily then? I'd like to give them a box full of hay to burrow into, but also want their food bowls and water in the same area. Agree re shavings being messy. I'be putting fleece on top of the puppy pads as someone suggested above. I would use newspaper but the only one available to me would be metro, and I know the ink comes off on the fingers so don't want to really use that with the boys.
