You should be so proud of yourself jack! You are an amazing and committed piggy-daddy. I am so pleased that daisy has had a straight forward recovery x

Hi everyone, I thought that I would post an update since it has been 2 weeks (yesterday - 14th March) since Daisy's operation. *Touch wood* Daisy is doing great! She is a stable weight and has stayed in the 800 gram region for at least the past 2 weeks. Although she is not her original weight that she was before she fell poorly; she has certainly filled out again nicely. She just looks great all round. She was 819 grams when I weighed her this afternoon. I am weighing every 2 days now rather than daily. She is still on the zithromax (I am not entirely sure how long you're supposed to continue with it once it has all gone?) Need to try and get an appointment to see John next week for a checkup, not that she needs it at all!

She looks wonderful! Well done for getting her through this. You would never guess at what she had been through to see her now.

What a beautiful little girl, well done on caring for her so well.

A fantastic result - and testament to your care and attention.
In the words of NCIS - Rule no 51....."sometimes you are wrong".

I was...I'm sorry ......and I take my hat off to you for your dedication and care in pursuing your convictions and getting her through this

Thank you so much @Pebble it means a lot to me! It was not easy but was so worth it, I have learnt another skill which I am sure will come in handy in the future (hopefully not anytime soon) To see Daisy eating normally again and being happy is so rewarding, she has been a little star this past month or so. I think the metacam increase has really helped with keeping the arthritic pain in her jaw under control. Do you know how long you are supposed to give Zithromax for after recovery? @furryfriends Excellent Adventure Sanctuary xx

With aggressive abscesses we have tended to do 3 to 4 weeks of Zithromax. The worry with stopping it too soon could be the abscess returns. Daisy has done so well. I wish you lived closer, I have so much work you could be helping with! You should be very proud of what you have achieved xx

Thank you, will continue for at least 3 weeks then. Really hope it doesn't come back! I wish I was too, would love to help out with piggies! It's such a rewarding feeling knowing you're helping them. Thank you very much xx

We will be setting a date for an open day soon. Would be lovely if you could come xx

She looks great- I'm so glad! If I ever get another abscess experience, I am begging for Zithromax! It seems to clear them so much faster than other antibiotics. We did get Sundae to that point of healing, but it took months, not weeks! I'm so impressed with how well she had done! :)

Wow she is looking brilliant Jack. You should be so proud. I'm so glad she has recovered well.

She's such a gorgeous little pig :) x

Hi everyone, I noticed yesterday morning that there's a slight kind of small, hard lump where Daisy's abscess was. Am really worried in case it has returned. Could it be some fatty tissue or something similar? It moves when you touch it and it's not big at all nor is it fluid filled. It's just a hard tiny thing. It's hard to explain.

Going to phone the vets later to get an appointment for Thursday or Friday hopefully as she needs a chevkup anyway.

Not sure what it would be, as haven't experienced anything like it. I doubt it's anything of too much significance but best to get it checked. Is she still on Zithromax? x
It appears the abscess is back from what I could see this morning :( yes she is, although I lowered the dose when it went last week. Plus she's being rather naughty and not swallowing it! Do you think if a warm soaked cotton wool ball was pressed against it that the head should then open up? Really don't know what to do if it's come back, especially so soon. Will be phoning the vets this morning, need to figure out when I can go. This is such a shame, just as I thought Daisy had got through it :( xx

Very sorry to read this update, I know when Fred finished his antibiotics I was convinced the abscess had come back but it was all in my mind. I hope this is the case for your little one.

Good Luck at the vets. x

Sorry to hear this news.

Let's hope it's not come back when you get her checked by the vet. Poor little Daisy. She's in great hands though! I always notice in photos that she seems to trust you a lot, which is lovely.

Jack you are doing the best thing. If you have any concerns a vet should be able to advise you and hopefully Daisy's health will continue to improve. Fingers and paws crossed for you at this end.

Definitely worth trying to get some pus from it by getting a cotton wool pad and being fairly abrasive in how you rub at where the opening was. You need to keep the Zithromax dose at the higher rate for at least four weeks I find when dealing with aggressive abscesses. x

I will try this when I get home, as currently I am at college. I will be re-increasing it then and forcing it down her again, I have been a little too lenient with her since it had cleared up by not forcing it in to her. She absolutely hates the stuff, not an easy task trying to get it in her. It is a shame as it had been completely gone for 10 days? Surely it can't be back again for a 3rd time? I am so disappointed, not at Daisy or myself. But by this happening again, if you know what I mean. I was feeling so positive and relieved that Daisy had come through this. If it is going to be a constant on-going problem, will she ever be able to recover and get better? I still now do not understand why my little girl has to be poorly. I am always having to face this with my pets, it is so unfair. In just 2 and half years, I have to deal and experience with 2 rabbits with ill health, one had dental disease; arthritis and heart disease. The second had dental disease, kidney disease, arthritis and heart disease and was on various twice daily meds and had to have several operations. Then they both passed on, as expected. Then to top it all off, lost Daisy's half sister Ruby in December to heart failure very suddenly and unexpectedly (found out by post mortem). Daisy was fine when Ruby was alive which is what I am struggling to understand.

Sorry for my rant, I am so upset. I can't believe I am facing this :( x

Please don't lose heart. You're doing a great job. If you want to give me a ring later my contact details are on the website www.teasnorthampton.co.uk I can probably give you a few tips for getting the meds into her and also hopefully reassure you that you and Daisy can beat this. x

Thank you, Would it be possible to ring you on Thursday morning? Managed to get Daisy to take 0.4ml of Septrin earlier. Also have got an appointment for 17:50 tonight with JC. x
