I’ve been posting about Penelope having some recurring bladder issues. UTI’s, bladder sludge, discomfort when pooping/peeing.

Well I recently had to leave her for a week while we went away and the lady watching her gave her veg everyday and made sure to wet it. When I came back, she hadn’t drank much of her water at all.

She’s been back home now almost a week and I have seen her at the water bottles. However her poops are dark, dry and hard. She is still having bladder issues/some bladder sludge. She was showing some discomfort when peeing and lifts her butt up when pooping. She has not lost any weight. She weighs in around 680g everytime I weigh her. I’m not sure why her poops are like this. If it’s possibly connected to her bladder issues.

Just bumping this for you. Is she eating veg as usual at moment?
You havent changed pellets or anything like that?

Yes she is. She gets lettuce, cilantro, peppers, & cucumber daily. She doesn’t seem too big of a fan of her cucumber any more but she’s always been quite picky with her cucumber lol.

She also doesn’t get pellets any more ever since her bladder issues.

I would just keep an eye on her. As long as they are coming out and plenty full. She isn’t crying when pooing or anything?

She lifts her butt up sometimes when she’ll poop a lot in a little pile. She does not squeak while pooping though.
She has been more vocal when peeing sometimes but she’s been having reoccurring bladder issues (UTI’s/bladder sludge.)

Piggies often lift their bum up when pooping, in the absence of any crying when pooping, i would just keep an eye...One of our girls had constant bladder issues and would squeak when pooping and lift her bum up also. Everything is so close together down there....
Is she on metacam for the bladder issues for some pain relief?

Today while having floor time, she did lift her butt and pulled her ears back while she was pooping. :/ it’s clear her bladder is bothering her again. She doesn’t seem to strain everytime she poops. It also seems when she strains, the poops will be a little misshaped like a pointy end. Then she’ll have normal poops after that.

I haven’t been able to get on top of her bladder issues it seems. She just got off another course of Bactrim for a possible uti. She’s been having issues with sludge as well. I don’t know if trauma to her bladder from the sludge could cause cystitis/inflammation? I really don’t know what else could be going on with her.

Our vet doesn’t like to prescribe meloxicam every 12 hours. She wants me to give her 0.2 every 24. My only thing is she has heart issues so she’s on benazepril and there seems to be known interactions between meloxicam and benazepril. I was giving her the meloxicam in the morning and she gets the benazepril in the evening. (12 hours apart.) I stopped giving it to her after learning there are known interactions between the two. I was going to start her meloxicam back up in the morning since she is straining while pooping again.
