dental problem

Hi.

I have a guinea pig who has had 3 dentals now. Each time he has taken around a month to get back to eating hay and pellets. After syringe feeding for about 2 weeks he starts to try and eat mint (his favourite) and then other soft salad leaves but it's a slow process. I also give him small bits of weetabix which he adores to try and encourage his eating. Around 4 weeks after his dental he starts to eat his hay and pellets and the last thing for him to achieve is always using his water bottle again.

Also the first time he had his teeth done he developed bumblefoot (scabs on his feet). The vet gave me fuciderm gel for them.

I don't normally post on the forum, I just tend to lurk, but I just wanted to give you some encouragement to keep going with your piggy. Soon he will be back to his happy self :)

Aw, this is very encouraging to anyone who has dental piggies :)

Thanks for the support, *** kind of mood was you pig in? Was he still walking around? jimmy just sits and stares,
i just dont want him to suffer id rather left him go,
He barly chewing and wen i pt he back in his cage ot of his towel he never lefted his legs to get tem into the right position like he hasnt tue energy?

Ive fed him ten mls every two hours all day since half nine his mornin and his fibroplex,
Some of it does dribble out.....
His mouth is full now and he wont chew?
I feel so helpless

When I put him in his cage he would go straight under his blanket to sleep. He would still be there when I came to get him for his next feed.

It's very hard to advise what to do without being able to see your piggie. If he's unable to swallow then the prognosis is grave. However, it may just be that he's getting very weak as he isn't getting enough food. When did you last feed him?

I have been continusly fedding since half six he it only takin every little bits,
Ive a vet app at ten in the mornin..........
I hope he makes it

Really sorry you are going through this, we were going through something very similar this time last year.
Is your piggie on metacam or any pain meds at the moment? This would be worth speaking to the vet regarding. If his mouth is sore he is going to be reluctant to try to chew.

Did you get the results of the xrays regarding root growth?

Jimmy left for the rainbow bridge............

I'm sorry to say my little boy left me for the rainbow bridge..........8...
Heartbroken isnt the word for me **** now. I knew last nite things were starting to fade,
He had had enough of the syringefeeding and coudnt take any more then his little legs started to go.......when i woke this mornin he was struggling to breath and then he left................no more pain, no more syringe feeding and all the cucumber my liitle man want at the other side of the bridge.8...8...

I just want to thank very one who helped me and supported me through these past two weeks, wihout the help i would have been lost. XoX

8... I'm so so sorry hun, in tears here.
We all know how much you persevered with Jimmy and willed him to pull through this, I could sense your desperation - he had decided it was his time to go to the Bridge :(
I'm really sorry, had prayed he'd improve... :Ayociexp118:
Run free little man, play safe x>>
Sending hugs to you x

oh blimey i have just read through all of this.

What an excellent job you did for your baby, you must not blame yourself, you could have done no more, you asked for help and got it and followed all the advice, your baby knew you loved him and tried so hard, it was obviously just his time.

I am so sorry you have gone through all this and still had such a sad ending, it really does hurt to see them suffer and then to lose them, well... We all know how you are feeling right now, my heart goes out to you and i wish i could give you a big old hug.

Take care and just try to remember the good times.

Rip piggy, enjoy your cucumber over the bridge x

I'm in tears reading this, I'm so so sorry to hear the news, You tried your best to do everything you could for him, same thing happened to me with my Rabbit 4 months ago, she had dental problems and after her op I was syringe feeding her but he had given up, just use to hold the food in her mouth. I know exactly how you are feeling at this moment and I'm so upset for you, you did all you could just remember that x

I'm so very sorry to hear your news.
I've been following your thread and was keeping everything crossed for Jimmy. You've been so wonderful caring for him and I hoped so much he would pull through.

He is at peace now and can run free with the other piggies.
Bless xx

I'm really sorry for your loss, you really did do your best for him & it sadly wasn't meant to be. Run free Jimmy x

Oh I'm so sorry. :( I only just read this thread now. I'm so sad for you. You did all you could do and I guess he was just too weak.. poor little man. He is at peace now.

I'm so sorry. I was hoping he would have pulled through.

((HUGS))- I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost a piggie to tooth-related issues as well... it's heartbreaking to watch. You gave him every possible chance... he was fortunate to have you. RIP little one. :(
