I haven’t posted here in a while, so I really hope you guys can help me with my pig’s behavior.

About a month back, I finally managed to get my pig a C&C cage and gave him enough space to run around, have a spot for food, and a spot for his barn. However, this past week, he has been waking me up at 2AM (currently that hour) because he has been purposely been biting on his cage and seperating all of my work.

He learned how to undo them by watching me when I removed the grids for floor time.

I’m honestly in desperate need. He’s not letting me sleep and I have to wake up early for school.

I have a feeling that it’s my fault though, I tended to give me very long hours of floor time because before I got the C&C cage, he was living in a small, compact cage. I think he’s marked territory in my room, so now he thinks my whole room is his living space and not his cage.

I really don’t know how to fix this, help please?

This is all the dismantling he created, he is currently resting under my metal shelf, one of his favorite hiding spots.

Most people use cable ties to secure C&C grids together, then they stay attached even if the clips come off. We have 2 cable ties on each panel joint. Also does your piggy have a friend? Piggies are very sociable and need piggy company. If he is lonely and bored that might be why he's trying to take the cage apart.

Using cable ties is also my suggestion but you would need to make sure that he can’t access the bottom ones because he sounds very determined and would most likely chew through them.
I also agree about him having a friend.

Noted, I’ll invest on some cable ties. Thank you.

I’ve tried getting him a friend, but it didn’t go very well. The other pig left him with some very deep cuts. I live in a very small town too, so guinea pigs are very rare to find in the animal shelter here. I do think he’s lonely though, after I had to take the other pig back, if he heard any sound of another pig from my phone, he tends to go near it and investigate.

Totally agree with the friend part. My boar keeps playing up and destroying his whole cage because he is bored of being alone, but he will soon be with my sow. Your boy is probably trying to break out to explore

Then it looks like it's time for me to find him a new buddy. Unfortunately I live in a very small town and the shelter here doesn't have any guinea pigs. All available shelters are 2-4 hours away from me... :soz:

Try pets at home adoption part. You can search online at support adoption for pets website, type in your post code and select guinea pig. Cancel that your not in the uk.

He is in California, US and I haven't seen Pets at Home where I live, Michigan, in US.

There are PetSmart, and Petco you can visit to see guinea pigs.

Wish you the best of luck.

@ALL
Thank you for all the help! I am currently contacting the Humane Society in San Diego, CA. They have a wider range of guinea pigs and I'm pretty sure that I can find a buddy for Pablo there.

I've tried with a guinea pig from Petco before, but he wasn't a match. Unfortunately, I had to return the boar and this time around, I would prefer to adopt.
