Thanks Wiebke for the advise and the website. The product will arrive tomorrow via first class post. They did not sell any at Pets at home (annoyingly).

Fingers cross he is getting better.

He is getting better - that is the great news; but it was a bit too severe an attack to just be a quick recovery. You will need to be patient for a bit longer. Remember how wiped out you for quite a while are after a severe norovirus attack?

I just hope I am doing the right thing. He seems so tired out. I just hope he gets some strength soon. Looking out for more poops!

Hope he continues to go from strength to strength. The oxbow recovery is pretty much just a liquid food replacement than u can syringe, but has more goodness for building them up a bit. If he starts willingly taking it from you then thats a good sign. Always leave some dried food available in between feeds, weighed regularly to see if hes taking any. The fibreplex is the probiotic that just replaces all the good bacteria in his guts that the antibiotics are killing off. Its most efficient given 1-2 hours after the antibiotic. The dose is one ml per kg of body weight, 3 times a day. The mls are measured in little clicks on the syringe. I find it excellent stuff, much better than any other probiotics ive tried. If you cant get the dioralyte or its not working, u can get "convalescence" from the vet which is the same, just an electrolyte powder u make up with water. Keeping the anus clean is important, if u turn him up and gently part his anus and tease out any lumps of poos, it will help him go. Just the same as you would do with impaction in males if youve ever had experience with that. Theres lots of lovely people giving advice and hopefully it helps the wee man out x

Viovet are very quick despaching your order, sometimes if you order early enough in the morning , it will arrive the next day

Did you take advantage of the free p&p for orders over 25 pounds ?

With Viovet I tend to pay an extra 99p for next day delivery and if I order on my lunchbreak it arrives next day.

Dear all,

Thank you for all the advise. His poop yesterday at 9.30pm was more solid and less watery. But sadly he has passed away in my arms at 10.30pm.

Digger has such an impact on my life from morning routine to his spot in the fridge for his vega. I hope I have give him the best in life for an adopted guinea pig and also the best of care.

Again, thanks for all the help.

I am so sorry :( you certainly did do more than your best for him. We all know how quickly these little mights go down hill and how short their precious little lifes are :(

It is difficult to wake up and not see his head looking for food. Looking back, I suspect he had a stroke as there was loads of bean poop and when I return he was running about. Only about 6pm he start to limp on one side and couldn't stand on it. He just kept rolling to his side. That was when I called the vet. Only early morning when I checked on his, there was diahrrea. The vet gave him steroid in case he had head inflammation and the antibiotics for his diahrrea.

I love him very much and miss him.

Missing you a lot. Thank you for all those wonderful memories you shared with me. The avatar was the last photo I took of him before he was ill. Napping under the warm sun or just tired out watching me clean the flat. I cannot decide.
