Few questions...

I have just been over and collected 4 'boys' from a lady in this area. She said they were 3 1/2 weeks old, they look older than that to be (but not sure as not weighed them yet)

Anyway she said that she had a blind one too a female. I said I would take her if she wanted and she said she was going to keep her with mum. All good I though. She then said she had a blind male from one of her sows previous litters. Turns out her sow has had FIVE litters since November.

I had a chat with her about the dangers for the sow and she said it was her plan to keep the boys together and the girls together, she hoped that mum wasn't already pregnant and hoped she didn't make any mistakes.

I have come home and it's 3 boars and a sow.

Now I have put her in the run with Daisy and Sweep and will try them in the cage together but what if it doesn't work out?

And how will I sleep thinking about this mum? I have text her saying one was a girl and that I would happily take mum and blind daughter which would leave her with the 2 boys and to have a think about it. Ideal world she would see that mum and other baby would be better off here. Fingers crossed.

Now I can give new sow Molly an adjoining temporary smaller cage and I'm sure something will work out for her but really the thought of the poor mum is really getting to me...

That poor mom :( And especially since she's been having blind babies, it could be genetic or something? Not good.

Anyway, hopefully she won't breed anymore. If she gave you them, then maybe she is having trouble finding homes and doesn't want to breed anymore?

All you can do is put the offer out there and hope she'll take it. You've already helped so many Lisa, but sometimes there are ones you can almost touch that you just can't help. You have done all you can and made the offer, fingers crossed the lady decides to take you up on it. xx

You are trying your best, and - after having seen with Taffy what multiple back-to-back pregnancies do to a poor sow - I can REALLY feel for you and that poor, poor mum! It's hardest to know of piggies that are in dire need of good care and not being able to get to them; or those neglect cases that just make it into rescue, only to die...

BIG HUG and BEST OF LUCK!

PS: Could you offer that lady to sex all her piggies for her, so you get to see mummy and blind daughter?

it always does hun but one thing you have to draw comfort from is you gave her advice, hoping she may have listened to so draw comfort from that and knowing you helped 4 guineas:)

Perhaps a litttle time for all that you told her to sink in and a follow up call in a few days time will encourage her to do the right thing.

If you have females like this that may not be suitable for rehoming, do remember that my perm girl group is smaller than I'd like. Although blindness in itself is no barrier to rehoming as long as it's not an indicator of other congenital problems

Right she wont give them up no matter what I do.

Daisy won't accept Molly so she's in a cage next to her brothers where she can see them for now, someone will come along for her I'm sure the rate things are moving.

Shame - big shame. :(

well done lisa you have done a sterling job getting them pigs.

that woman deserves a kick up the butt I'm sorry to say. why dont these people educate themselves on animals before keeping them. xx

Oh my... Good work, Lisa, good work... even though everything didn't work out. You won't *** every battle, but you will help a lot of piggies to a better life..

I expect it will be with this lot. It's all in breeding. :(

To put it bluntly I cannot believe the dumbness and carelessness of some people who just literally do not deserve to be pet owners! That poor mum and poor babies.
Has she definitely seperated the right sexes?

Well done Lisa, you're amazing

I can only imagine your frustation, Lisa, but you're doing a fantastic job and have managed to help so many piggles already x x

The in-breeding can be a real problem, even when the consequences are obvious it doesn't mean they have poor quality of life - e.g. my Esther, vet reckoned she wouldn't make it past 3 months, now completely blind, deaf as a post, bizarre breathing, yet she's 4 years old built like a tank and is a very happy little pig. She has no idea she is any different to the other pigs and just gets on with her life.

I'll have to try to get a vid of her having a tantrum if anyone - including the dominant Lucy - tries to get past her to the food bowl. She stamps her back legs doing silly little jumps, swearing loudly and if they won't back off they get a swift kick to send them on their way.

Obviously I could never have rehomed her but she is having a ball here. Little Dinky Dinah likes her too and frequently sleeps next to her and washes her face.
