hi! I'm right now researching to get guinea pigs!
i just read an article that said pigs need mineral blocks, salt blocks and vitamin tablets.
i have not read this on any other websites and i want to check if this is true.

@mrams65 Unfortunately that's all just a marketing ploy to try to get you to buy junk, they don't need it. They will get all the salt, vitamins and minerals from the hay, pellets and veg you feed them.

In my experience, mineral licks get ignored... fresh fruit, veg, and hay are far more important. Mineral licks are targeted to those who don't treat their pets right. The fruit sticks or nibbly bits you can buy help to relieve their need to gnaw, but nothing competes a good diet x

You need to give give piggies hay, hay, hay, more hay and yet more hay! Hay should be 80% of the diet. They love to burrow into it and then eat their way out and play in it and with it. Piggies need only a tablespoon per pig of pellets and the rest of the diet should be made up of veg and maybe a bit of fruit as a treat once a week or less. Its great that you are doing so much research.
