Do they always die from pneumonia

Huge hugs, I'm pretty sure that there are members on here who have had piggies survive. I haven't unfortunately, I've only had the one experience and alongside a jaw defect, an abscess in her cheek and elongated roots I don't think she stood too much chance of getting over it as it as just too much for her. Kim in Northampton did tell me though that they can get better but sometimes still struggle due to scarring on the lungs so I do believe it isn't impossible

He had to be put in an oxygen tank. Then needle syringed a strong antibiotic. And i caught it late. There is hope. And this wasnt even at a guinea pig vets. It cleared up in about a week. I had to go to the vets in the night everyday over christmas to get him injected. It was a type of penicillin, but because it wasnt oral,it was safe. Hes the pig in my avatar who had pneumonia

Yea my pip had scarring on the lungs from pneumonia . But it never came back and he lived 2 more years after. Bladder stones got him in the end

She ias been checked into the vets is getting antibiotics, gut stimulants nebulising critical care. I’m hoping I got it early she was a little off this morning and quiet today then didn’t move when Binky chased her his evening and her eye was funny so I took her down straight away tonight. She was fine yesterday. Please god not Ziggy, she is my baby.

I am really sorry you are really going through it.... sending lots of love.

Maybe worth speaking to the vets about diuretic if there is fluid on the lungs such as furosemide. Tagging in @helen105281 for you, sending lots of healing vibes to Ziggy and huge hugs to you x

The Guinea in my avatar had severe pneumonia and survived for another 2 years before her heart gave out. She was 5 years old and a real fighter. Along with antibiotics it’s crucial you manage fluid on their lungs as it’s this which can kill them. Frusol (frusemide) is the best for this (strong diuretic) and can really make a huge difference.

You sound like a wonderful Guinea slave...good luck and healing vibes! Xx

She has had an ok night. Eaten and pooped, they are about to give her her next round of meds and they are keeping her in. She is however quiet.
Eating and pooping is their best friend. Dont worry too much . This is good stuff

I am not counting anything as good news. Burt went from eating and pooping to dead in 24 hours - with antibiotics (which had been started 3 days prior at a whopping dose), syringe feeding, sub cut fluids, vitimins, nebulising and eventually gut stimulants.

Pro biotics?

Got to a small animal vet and get fibre plex . Or go pets at home and get a pot of pro c by vetark

He had fibreplex, he had bio lapis we give these anyway (they are in our med kit). URI's are a well trodden path for us, Pneumonia isnt - I have always caught them before it has got to pneumonia - Burt was the first I have ever lost to a URI. She is still at the vets getting care - so my input is limited.

Diuretic would really help as they clear fluid from the chest. I think the vet usually gives a large dose sub-cut first and then tablets or the liquid version to give at home. My Buzz beat his first bout of pneumonia with the help of furosemide (diuretic), Bisolvon and Zithromax. The liquid diuretic is Frusol.

Zigg has possible pneumonia I’m beside myself, I suspect that’s what Burt had.
My two guinea pigs have had a form of pneumonia for over a month now, the one whilst having birth twice due to a friend's ignorance when sexing guinea pigs. We haven't found any antibiotic to completely cure it yet, but I finally got one that should work for the one who is not breast feeding.
