.. natural things aswell? for example, could 4 veggies be leafy greens and then one thing be something like apple twigs and leaves?

or would natural things be in addition to veggies? and could the amount of veggies be lowered slightly if natural things are fed aswell?

just wondered because ches and maisie only have leafy greens and herbs for their veg so i don't want to overdo these. i give 4 a day (2 in the morning and 2 in the evening) and try to rotate daily/every couple of days if i can.

i'm just struggling a bit with veg at the minute as alot seem to be not great quality and all the mixed bags are awful lately so i'm finding it hard to rotate as much as i'd like.

they eat loads of hay, they love lots of types, they have grass when it's dry/when i grow it, and a small amount of pellets at night before bed (vet said no pellets but i still feed a small amount at the minute) they also have dried herbs aswell which they love.

the 'only leafy greens' and 'no/limited pellets' is on the vets advice and i am very happy with it as ches and maisies condition has improved so much, and the difference in their fur is great. just incase anyone wondered about the only leafy greens thing. the vet recommends this to everyone, but especially in ches and maisies case as sugary/fat veg (carrot, peppers, babycorn etc) made chesney gain alot of weight, and also set maisies tummy off, as did anything gassy like cabbage, cauli and broccoli. so alot of things got ruled out anyway.

sorry for all the questions! :red my posts always seem to get so long! :red

been doing some research and it seems that veggies generally means anything that isn't hay or pellets, so any 'human' veggies count, as do any natural foods - leaves, twigs etc. :)

I feed mine a variety, everywhere i've read about piggy diet it's not to give them too much of any one thing mine have about 5 varieties of veg a day, yesterday they had lettuce kale pepper tomatoes green beans and carrot's tonight i will do a different lettuce, spring green's, broccoli, cucumber, parsely although it is getting harder to get veg as it's out of season:(

that's what i'm finding, i'm not being able to rotate as much as i usually do. and the veg is not nice this time of year either. some of the bags are disgusting... :)>>>

my lot only have leafy greens aswell so it seems even harder lately. rolleyes

we are getting some with the weekly shop, and o/h is having to top up a few times a week aswell.

I normally go twice a week too, trouble is the leafy green's bulk out their food but even they are not good everyday, i only started to learn about veggies since having pig's (i didnt even know veg went out of season lol) maybe their are some winter veg more available

I must confess that mine do not get a choice of 5 different types of fresh food a day but they do get a couple of different types a day that are rotated over the week. They have all been perfectly fine though!

mine would normally get 3 to 4 but as i have an extra 13 at the moment it's easier and just as cheap to rotate more veggies as they dont go off so quickly due to them getting eaten

i'm finding the mixed bags have to be used the same day otherwise they go off. so my o/h is topping up loads more than normal.

luckily the herb plants don't seem too bad and they have those alot, especially coriander which they love. x)

i try and feed 4 a day, and rotate each day/couple of days, but sometimes they will have more each day, depends how many things are in the mixed bags. :)
