Does anyone know if osseus metaplasia/hetero-optic bone formation could cause this?

Hi! I just noticed Eggs has a very glazed eye. He has very obvious hetero-optic bone formation already especially when he rotates his eyes. I immediately thought hay poke because him and my other boy Ollie have had them before but he’s not squinting and it’s his whole eye that’s glazed suddenly. The brighter little patches amongst the glazing are pre-existing bone growth in his eye! His eyes have gradually started getting a little patchy in the centre for a while because of it, so the whole eye itself being suddenly glazy is the issue.

He’s not squinting or even uncomfortable like usually with a hay poke but like I couldn’t find any evidence of a hay poke. My other piggy couldn’t possibly have injured his eye because they have a split cage between them. I gave him some Metacam and I’m gonna ring the vet in the morning and get him seen to of course

Poor little guy, I hope he gets on okay at the vets.

My piggies both have hetero-optic bone formations in their eyes and starting developing mild cataracts at a some what early age (not sure if linked). I know that doesn't help as you have mentioned they are usually half glazed and are now fully glazed but thought it was worth a mention.

Let’s see what the vet says. One of my girls has the condition pretty strongly, it has never touched the centre of the eye, nor are they “hazy” 🤔

Do let us know!

Thanks everyone, the vet who did my cat’s eye surgery saw him because eyes are more her thing and she said there’s no ulceration, the pressure is normal so no glaucoma but she cannot see to the back of his eye it’s too opaque and when they were looking at it he’d start grinding his teeth when they pulled the eyelid back and it’s very inflamed, so no hay poke but they don’t quite know what caused it. He’s got a steroid and antibiotic ointment for it and continuing on painkillers of course. Hopefully it clears up 🤞🏻

Also, the eyedrops are Maxitrol to add. I think eyes are technically considered topical, does anyone know if a topical steroid is okay to use along with metacam?
