Hello, I'm from Thailand and not a native speaker so I'm sorry for my English in advance.

My guinea pig used to have a tooth root abscess. His tooth is fine now, but he has developed a mammary tumor. At first, my vet and I thought it was just a fatty lump, but six months later, it grew to 1.5 cm. The vet suggested surgery, but I chose to try medication and monitor the symptoms instead. After one month, the tumor grew another centimeter, so I decided to go ahead with surgery. However, my vet now suspects it could be cancer and recommended a biopsy first, because if it is cancer, surgery may not be the best option. Right now, my guinea pig is on new medication, but the tumor still appears to be swelling.

Is there still a chance it’s not cancer? I really hope it’s just a benign tumor.

I'm sorry to hear this.
The only way to know is to have the biopsy done.

However mammary tumours always need to be removed as they will continue to grow indefinitely and thus impede movement

Guinea Lynx :: Mammary Tumor

There is a section about mammary tumours in this guide. (It is a guide relating to sow behaviour but mammary tumours more commonly affect boars)

I hope he is ok
Thank you very much for the information. I’ve gone through it, and I’m now waiting hopefully and anxiously for the result.

Sorry you are facing this .
Hope the vet trip goes well.

Whatever the outcome we are here to support you
Thank you so much. Your words truly meant a lot to me. I’ll let you know once I hear back about the result.

The biopsy result is out, and it's mammary adenocarcinoma. I've scheduled surgery as soon as possible, which will be this coming Sunday. During the X-ray we did last time, it hadn't spread to the lungs. I hope the surgery goes well. Right now, he can still eat and play as usual. I really feel sorry for him. I also blame myself for not deciding to have the surgery sooner. For now, I've been researching this type of cancer.

just wanted to show his cute picture 💖
