I've contacted a few people about this and no one really knows anyhting about it.... one person has heard of it... but thats it...

Wilfred that was born in to rescue on 30th october... and hasnt grown since he was 4 weeks old....@)
He weighs about 209g in comparison to his brothers and sister they are all weighing around the 500g-700g area...

There is nothing medically wrong with him... he eats and drinks like everyone else... hes happy and active... just tiny...

so have any of the rescues or people on here actually had a dwaf guinea I'm curious to know how they got on... ive been told their life expectancy isnt long... up to 9 months and its quite rare but is something that happens due to in breeding and being as wilfreds mom was kept with her brother it was obvious in breeding...

heres wilfred next to rupert...

aw I hope he lives a normal long life...hopefully someone on here has experience with a dwarf piggie!

its a genetic problem so what will be will be eh... its just ive never heard of it and i have a couple people who i contact when something animal like stumps me and most of them had never heard of it... one knew someone who had one a few years back but thats it... not alot of info from it... but i thought someone on here must know something about it...!

I love the pictures!:))

Id say someone does, they have to,of all the piggies and rescues on the forum id say someone has to have come across a dwarf piggie!

I hope so anyway!x

I agree. Given how he is obviously never been poorly, never been under fed, never had trouble eating, how could it possibly be stunted growth?

:) Hopefully he will live a long and happy life as a mini pig ;) Hes gorgeous. Will you be letting him be adopted? (i would imagine not, but just wondering)

He's lovely. x) x) x)
I hope you have many years of love and cuddles with him. x

fingers corssed he has a happy life... even if it is only a few months...
no he wont be up for adoption as its a bit dicey how long he will live.. i'm feeling sorry for Jazz at the moment... hes lost ozzy and it doesnt look like he'll have wilfred for verry long either...
as long as he loves a happy life i'll be okay... no matter how long he lives i just want him to have quality of life...

You know, HE doesn't realise there's anything wrong with him and shouldn't be treated as such. I mean, not that you ever would, but to handle him with kid gloves won't change anything right? I think if any health issues crop up then he should be seen by a vet as normal and otherwise, just enjoy his mini self! He's such a darling!

OH he's such an ickle little darling x)x)x)
Best of luck Clare, i know he's in great hands with you XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
His quiff is rather gorgeous isn't it droolx)

Ive never heard of a dwarf piggie buts its quite likely that your little chap has something like a growth hormone deficiancy or genetic mutation which has meant that he is to be small. There are a number of different disorders in animals which can cause 'dwarfism' and it would be very hard to tell in a piggie without doing further tests etc. Hopefully he will live a happy and long healthy life. Hes very cute!

I hadnt either... i was talking witrh a sanctuary i work closely with about wilfred... asking about what they thought was stunting his growth and she mentioned about dwarf guineas... she knew someone who had one... due to inbreeding... its totaaly bizzarre i didnt really think it happened with out them being neglected... and being as i had his mom from early pregnancy and she was fed well from the second she walked in my doors... and all the four other babies from that group are fine... just wilfred thats tiny...@) ever so confusing...

Oh my goodness- the baby pics especially just about killed me with cuteness! I've got no experience to draw on, but hope your little guy does well and has a wonderful life, even if it does end up being shorter than average- and of course I hope he goes to live a full happy span! He may be tiny, but he's totally gorgeous!

I would'nt have thought his small size would make his life any shorter tbh, If there was something seriously wrong with him i would have thought the vet would have picked it up.
Many animals are bred for the dwarf gene, toy dogs for one (my breed included) And there avarage life expectantcy is 13+ (some even live into there 20s).
Enjoy him hes lovley ").

Eeek x) - he's stunning, what a cutie pie drool
Hope this special little guy has a wonderful life and pray 'breeders' don't get wind of them and think of it as a money making scam inbreeding
I love mini pigs but get as much happiness seeing them flourish into adults :(|)

This has nothing to do with in breeding...sometimes you just get a pig out that doesn't grow as much, or as well as their brothers and sisters. They generally have shorter lives, not as little as 9 months though...normally a few years, and have no health issues. They're 'normal' and healthy...just small!

I have a peruvian sow who was born at a normal weight of 58g's, but she got to 250g's and stopped growing...I call her my 'teacup peru' :)) ...and I know for a fact that her mother and father were not related, nor were her grandparents, or great grandparents...so no in breeding there! (I know the person who bred her and they still have her family line going back several generations)

It's a genetic mess up I think... So I doubt you could purposely breed them thank god...
It's sad really... He's ever so fragile looking bless him... I like my pigs to be chunky.... :)

I'm sure it can happen with out inbreeding... Much like you can get a hairless guinea pig from two roans apparently... But I would be shocked if in wilfreds case it isn't inbreeding related... As they were seriously inbred... mallethead
When the group came in it took a while to work out how everyone was related...mallethead
Glad to hear your mini is doing good... :)
