Eddie doesn't quite seem himself

Eddie is not looking so happy today and isn't showing interest in hay so he's having some more grass which he is happily munching. Once he's finished his grass I'll try and get some Oxbow into him even though he doesn't like it. He's never had banana before but I'll try adding some to make it tastier.
His weight is exactly the same as yesterday (976g).
 
It’s good if it’s the same. Maintenance is better than loss. Hope the banana makes it more palatable for him.
 
I've now got quite a list of ailments to talk to the vets about on Monday! :doh: As well as his teeth, I'm going to mention that his feet are still a tiny bit red from before and I'm still putting the gel on them (my local vet prescribed the gel not the specialist he's going to tomorrow but it's still worth mentioning as it's been quite a while using the gel now) and I now need to ask them to look at his eye too as he had one short nibble of hay and managed to get a little bit of hay on his eyeball. He blinked it out on his own but I want them to check there's nothing left in it. He likes to keep me on my toes!

I've been giving Eddie pots of grass throughout the day which he slowly but surely works his way through so if he is still eating that and has maintained his weight since yesterday how many mls of CC should I be aiming to get into him? I gave him 6ml earlier but he was looking fed up of it so I stopped.
 
Now to add to the list, around 3pm yesterday Eddie's left eye (not the one that got hay in) started going super watery and the tear duct looks increasingly enlarged. His breathing had also gone honky this morning. I'm so worried about him, so many problems have come up in only a few days :(
 
I'm very worried about Eddie's eye and how quickly it's come up so we booked an emergency appointment at the local vets to see if we can get something for that while we wait for our appointment at the specialist later. Currently waiting outside, Eddie's just gone in.

I've been syringe feeding little and often and he's shown a little interest in grass too.
 
Turns out Eddie has an eye ulcer (awful timing!) so I've got isathal eye drops to use twice daily starting today. He's got a respiratory infection as well so I've got Baytril and to give 0.2ml twice daily starting from tomorrow. The vet gave him injections of loxicom and Baytril for today.

However, the vet said the specialist probably won't want to anaesthetise him while he's got a respiratory infection so we might have to wait for that to clear up before he can get his teeth sorted!
I'm also worried the antibiotics are going to affect his appetite even more than it's already been affected :(

Edit: sorry forgot to mention my mum phoned the specialist to ask what they want to do about seeing him now he's got a respiratory infection. We're waiting to hear back.
 
Oh Eddie! You like to do things all at once! Glad you have got some answers, there's nothing worse than no one knowing what's wrong.

Yes, at least I can be getting meds into him to sort out his eye and breathing while I wait to see what's happening with his other vet appointment.
 
Eddie update (sorry I didn't do it yesterday I was processing all this):

Turns out the problem with his eye is related to his teeth. The spur in his mouth has pushed against something around his eye causing puss to build up which has caused the eye to bulge out. The ulcer is there because he can't close his eye. There's a chance his eye is being pushed out by a tumour not puss but as he has teeth problems that's unlikely.

The vet will call on Wednesday morning (she doesn't work today) to explain exactly what she saw on the CT scan he had done yesterday and go through exactly what's going to happen.

What's most likely to happen is that he will have to have his eye completely and permanently removed so they can clean the puss out then seal it up. Then he will have to have the molar that's causing problems removed which doesn't sound too straight forward.

I thought by now he would have had his tooth filed and be recovering but turns out it's not that simple at all :(
 
I’m so sorry that it wasn’t better news. But now you’ve found the problem I hope that surgery can be scheduled soon and he will soon be on the road to recovery.
 
He should be alright without an eye shouldn't he since piggies don't have great eyesight anyway?

I am quite worried about the molar being removed though. Nathalie (vet) said unless the tooth is already loose it could be quite different because of how little space there is in their mouths :(

Yes he’d do absolutely fine with one eye, they cope amazingly! This sounds very similar to the issue that my Pedro the chin had (Jess had hers removed after an injury), an abscess behind his eye caused by a tooth growing upwards in his jaw. It’s great you’ve caught it early. @furryfriends (TEAS) will have much more information than me as chinchillas are a bit different and Pedro was a special case! (Thanks Debbie x)
Really hope that the meds can help with his chest and he feels better soon, massive hugs x

Sorry forgot to mention among everything else- turns out he doesn't have a respiratory infection after all! If there was anything wrong yesterday morning (all I was aware of was a bit of honking that didn't last long), it had gone by the time we got to the specialist. So that's a relief, I was worried antibiotics would put him off food even more than he already is.

Also, he's not co operating with his Emeraid anymore which means I can only get about 2ml in in one go before he wriggles and hides his face so much I just can't get any more in. I've read the syringe feeding guide but I'm worried if I hold his head like it says, it will hurt his tooth or his eye. I'm worried I'm not feeding him enough but I don't know how to get more into him. What else can I do to get more feed into him?
 
So so sorry, I've only just caught up with this thread. Hope you and Eddie are doing ok. This is exactly the same as what happened with Odin. Weeks and weeks of correcting his teeth and he still wasn't eating. Then the eye popped out one afternoon and he could eat again (there must have been lots of pressure behind there). He was initially going to have the eye removed but it responded to treatment. Kim and Simon were amazing. Once the eye healed, he started to go longer and longer between dentals and we got on top of his problems with the teeth.

Wow that's great Odin didn't need to have the eye removed! What was done to his eye instead?
