Huge hugs to you. Am sending loads of healing vibes to Lily (and Angel-Doctor is going to try to intercede for her)
x

Lily died early on this afternoon.

Vedra from CCT didnt even ring to tell us, she only told my boyfriend when he rang her....

thanks for all your support. at least Lily isnt suffering anymore now.

Really sorry to hear this, sweet dreams little Lily.
Take care, will be thinking of you,
Barbara

thank you all for your kind words...

I now have to decide within the next three months whether or not I want to take her home to bury her in the garden, or if I want her to be cremated at CCT...

While it seems silly to drive 6 hours for a dead animal, I feel like it would help me lots to have an actual place where I could go and visit her.. :-\ I dont know how to explain it... but I would really rather have her back and bury her myself.

I think you should collect Lily. You need her with you, and she needs it too. She needs to be with people who love her.

this is the letter I want to send to my old vets... my boyfriend said I should wait until I have cooled down a bit more before writing the letter, but this morning I woke up and couldnt get back to sleep and I just had to write it.
Could you have a read through and tell me if you think its ok to send it?

Hi,
I think your boyfriends advice is good, though I think it likely that you will still feel the same way in a few days/weeks time and send it. The letter is very good as it deals withe the facts (it might be worth specifying dates). I'd also add if it were me writing, that this is a formal complaint and that you look forward to hearing from them/expect a reply.
If you are not happy with their response, you could contact The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and complain.

Too many vets quite simply get away with murder when it comes to guinea pigs. I know of a vet in my area that killed a guinea pig by giving it penicillin :'( The owner never made a formal complaint and he got away with it. Would people be so forgiving it were a dog?

Good luck and I think you are being very brave, Lily would be proud of you.
Do give yourself some time to cope with the initial and acute stages of grief, that is why I think it might be a good idea to wait a little while before sending your letter. It's up to you and if you feel up to dealing with the complaint now, face to face perhaps with the vets who "treated" her.

Finally, it might be worth removing your address from the letter while it is viewable on line, just for privacy and safety reasons :)

Take care,
Barbara

my whole address is on my website anyway, because after all I'm german and my webspace is paid for in germany, and there are silly laws in germany about your adress having to be there if there is some copyright issue so that they can contact you blabla else you can get sued.
its really silly. but therefor my adress is not private anyway.

I will definitely do that! thanks for that advice..

:o That surprised me!

I agree with Barbara on it all. Hugs to you :)

The owner of a german guinea pig forum got sued, for example, because she googled for a picture of a 40.
A member had her 40th birthday and she posted this picture in the thread. it wasnt hers, copyright, she got sued.
she got a lawyer and fought back, but in the end it cost her about 500 euro. in germany there is a crazy sue-each-other thing going on at the moment, where people go looking especially for that sort of thing to make money out of it. sad world.

I would make the letter more formal by quoting dates and the name of the useless vet. You could always add at the bottom CC: Royal College of VS and send them a copy or write separately to them. It is a formal complaint about incompetence - you need to make sure they realise that. I wouldn't add "you have lost a customer" - I know this is a terrible time, but it sounds too emotional, and you need to be cool-headed and formal.

Good luck!

Bring your darling Lily home. Spend time just thinking about her. Remember all the lovely times you had together. She is beautiful and always will be. x

I have decided. We will drive down this saturday, and take her home with us.

*sigh*

poor thing. I think the others miss her.

You are doing the right thing. You would regret it so much if you didn't. x

I always bury mine in my garden. It helps to ease the pain knowing they are back where they used to love to play! :) x
all of my rainbow bridge pigs are buried in my garden I like to know where they are and often talk to them neighbours think i'm barking but hey who cares, am so sorry to hear about lily, might be a good idea to find a good vet who specialises in GP now before you need them again,
I am taking patch for a" teeth " problem tomorrow so am now in your shoes, fingers crossed patch is ok
