Hi, I'm sorry I do not know how to link this to my other posts and get it seen?
I really badly need advice again. We ordered Emeraid IC. But cannot figure the amounts to feed?
My piggy Bandit - 5 years old rescue - bladder stone 0.97mm . Unable to afford surgery 😔
He now weighs 866 grams as of today.
Emeraid says to feed 30ml per kilo. So Bandit would then need about 24 ml of Emeraid a day.
Meaning the 100 gram bag would last 4 days . Is that right 😳?

He appears to now be eating small amounts of veg. Nothing like he was before. But better than when he stopped altogether.

Thank you once again. Your advice has truly been invaluable to me xx

Trial and error when it comes to syringe feeding. Perhaps go by what the package tells you today, weigh him tomorrow morning and then you would need to adjust according (ie I’d he loses weight then he needs more). The same the following morning - adjust accordingly each day until he is stable.

The advice is that you aim for at least 60ml per day (40ml being the minimum amount to keep a very poorly piggy just alive, with a healthy piggy eating around 100ml per day) but it is dependent upon what the weight checks are telling you. However I’m not sure if emeraid may be more filling? I usually use critical care or mushed pellets when needing to syringe feed and always give more than 60ml per day.
Whatever product you use, It is still going to come down to what weight checks are telling you.

Hi

You make up the feed with 1 part powder to 1 part water. Emeraid goes off very quickly so you have to make it up freshly every 1-2 feeds. Don't make up loads at once. You do not feed by weight but by how much your piggy is able to take and process in each session. Follow up with some water whenever the cud in the mouth is build up after a few syringefuls of feed.

- If a piggy is in crisis and fighting the syringe you feed 5-10 ml every 2 hours during the day - as much as they will take. You are aiming at 40-60 ml in 24 hours. Your priority is to stabilise the weight and slow down the weight loss.

- If your piggy is taking 10-20 ml per session and is not in an acute crisis or coming out of an acute crisis, you are aiming at 2-5 feeding sessions with 60-90 ml in 24 hours. Full support means that they are not eating by themselves or are eating only very little. Your main aim is to stabilise the weight and if possible increase it again.

- If your piggy is still partially eating you can offer the emeraid as a top up in a bowl or via syringe once or twice daily. Your purpose is to stabilise or increase the weight as long as your piggy is struggling to maintain their weight on their own. This is top up feeding.

Ideally, you weigh your piggy first thing in the morning when the weight is lowest for best day to day comparison and then plan the interval sessions for the day by how much your piggy is taking on per session. Please be aware that there is about a normal 30g swing of body weight over the course of 24 hours so you cannot compare the afternoon weight with last day's morning session.
Because of the weight swing, the more often you weigh, the more the weight will jump around - there lies the perfect trap for anxiet sufferers. Once in the morning before you start feeding again is enough for the purpose.

Make sure that you have plenty of syringes at home and if needed cut off the tip as show in the guide. Rinse the syringe in a cup with some water after every syringeful. Emeraid tends to go down better but is also clogging up syringes very quickly.

I hope that this helps you? While you can mix critical care and pellets, emeraid is an enriched feed that should not be given mixed together with other feeds or supplements.
