Specialist Emergency Possible Life And Death - Throat Abscess

I mean, thats a weird place to get hurt on by a toy or something his throat.
And nibbs and moo when i put them in a play pin yesterday got attitudes and loud teeth chattering and moo went straight to his throat. I couldnt tell what. If he 1. Nibbled it or tried to bite or 2.was licking it.
But why teeth chatter loudly and get ready for a fight rush over and then lick it?

Vet said it wasnt a recent recent because of the bood and pus built up.

I do ny best to take care of them but rifht now since i got them 2-4months ago they costed me a 2/10th of my new house i just bought.
I dont want to get rid of them i just want to know what the hell.
What the hell.
Why the hell.
Then what the hell.
 
And this is moos the doctor comfirmed it.
Specially sense its been leaking.
I saw it when i got him at the pet store but thought it was his viens or something but nope.
He had this before i got him

To give nibbles twice a day. I showed them a picture of moos ear and they said because what it looks like and fluid leaking he has the same thing To get him in next week and share nibbs medicine for now then when i get moo in and moos mediicne to share it with nibbs.
160usd vet bill.
I'm over 1000dollars in them and ive only had them 2-4months.

He said it looked like a fight wound or not look but it probaly was and it happened in my care sence i bought him.
But then he said it could of been one of there nails or a toy or something like a needle size and it got built up and exploded he cant tell.
Its open flesh they shaved him and he is kind of bloody still.
I was talking to the vet and no warning he squirted blood all over the room upwards j swear some went in my mouth but anyways.
I dont know what to do.
Said to use cage divider like I'm doing now and seperate them till its healed and okay and steady.
So they both have one.
Moo moo on ear
And nibbles ln throat.


Now may i say when i first saw nibbs and the hole was there there was ripped furr on the wound ripped and hanging out.
But vet said if it was recent fight or what not there would not be so much built up pus.

Let them heal and give them one more try.

But i want to understand what the hell happend.

I am very sorry that you are having such a tough ride! What a nightmare! Poor Nibbles! :(

Could you please give us the name of antibiotic, the concentration and Nibble's weight. You should find the necessary information on the label.

It sounds like a rather nasty abscess. Abscesses happen when wounds get infected under the skin, so they cannot heal off and the infected pus builds up over the course of quite a few days. Bites or swipes with claws are not exactly clean and can easily get infected, especially if you do not notice and disinfect it straight away, which is not all that likely considering that it is not in one of the most visible areas, so please don't blame yourself.

It also means that any abscess needs to heal from the inside out. You need to work the scab off and flush the wound with saline solution at least one daily and also get any new build up of pus etc. out. It is pretty unpleasant, but necessary, as otherwise, the abscess will come back and back. Please use either use one-use gloves or carefully wash your hands before and after. :(

In your case, I think that Moo going for his throat and licking it is a normal reaction from a companion to a burst abscess; Moo wanted to help in this case as guinea pig saliva is healing. It rather argues for the wound being rather an accident than the result of a nasty fight.

I mean id really hate for the divider to be up.
This morning i put them in a tub together and moo purred his heart out and nuzzled nibbles.
But there so bi polar.

Your boys are in the teenage months, which is the most difficult period. See whether Nibbles wants to be back with Moo or not - but please on neutral territory. If in doubt, keep them separated until they are both better.

PS: what did the vet say about Moo's ear? You have not been clear about that.

PS2: Can you please give us the details of his medication.
 
Weighs 2.1ozs nibbs

Add twice a day per 12hrs.
Smztmp oral suspension
0.4ml by mouth every 12hrs
Liquid
 
Moos ear.

To come back nest week and look at it.
Probaly pop it open and get the pus out. And medicine same as nibbles.

And even if they look healed the pus can come back a few months later and we can talk surgery

Thanks! As I suspected.

This is the reason why you need to make sure that any abscess need to be kept open for as long as possible and needs to be flushed and drained daily, so it can really heal from the inside out - that is the only way to prevent it returning. it is not a joyous job, but one that is vital.

Could you please look up your antibiotic? It should be on the bottle label or you can get the name and dosage from the vets.
 
Been up sense yesterday no sleep gona crash soon.
...its 2pm wow. I could try snd stay up till 9pm.
So tierd.

I just wanted them to get along in the sane cage. I wasent asking much. I love you house you feed you clean you play with you. All i ask is you two not to fight.

Yes, it is the pharmaceutical name for the antibiotic that is usually prescribed as bactrim (US) or septrin (UK).

There are stronger antibiotics like marbocyl (a stronger form of baytril) or zithromax that can be used against abscesses if the bactrim doesn't work.

Please make sure that you flush the abscess tomorrow @MooMoo&Nibbles ; it is not pleasant for you or for Nibbles to peel the scab off each time, but it needs to be done. Either make your saline solution yourself ( 1 or 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt mixed into 1 pint/500 ml of boiled cooled water) or get sterile saline from the pharmacy.
 
Okay in awake and a few things happened.

If i keep leaning over ill be in the hospital agian so we got new bedding.
I figure 16-20usd a week for bedding. That was one full big bag.

2. More toys to chew on because we took alot of stuff out before we went to vet.

we bought them another stainless steel hanger with toys and bell.

The coating on the grids was ripped off and alot of it.
butt holes.
anyways lol i put some more coroplast in there.
seperated equaly toys and wood chewies.

moo cried out for nibbs and nibbs made some noise and then moo really started to whimper.

but theh also teeth chatter alot and some times fight.
but they also pop corn.
so i dont know.
does this look okay? Do i need to move or add anything?
they both had there medicine.

i bought moo at petsmart for 50usd.
they told me there was nothing wrong with him and vet signed him off as okay to sell nothing wrong and healthy.
when i see pictures of when i first got him he had the mark on his ear.
shouldnt they pay my 200dollar bills for this?

Just bought this, the shampoo will that help wash the blood and pus off of them? And what to do about the bedding and toys and food ect?

P.s hope this food last.

if you have photos of the ear problem from when you first got him, then approach the pet store with the evidence and ask them about paying for your vets bills.. Good luck and i hope your guinea pigs get better soon x

Please do not use this shampoo. Use the saline solution I have recommended, as it is a local application and NOT a daily bath!

I was talking about cleaning i off his body here and there. Not for solution i just bought the stuff online.
I'm about to puke so give me a sec.
I wiped them both down with a guinea pig wet wipe.
Then got my salt solution and rubbed on moos ear.
Then got nibbles got him wiped down then i didnt scratch it off he wouldnt let me. But i messed with it enough to bleed.
Then saw it was a big bubble about size of 25cent coin american
And sqeezed it slittle bit and it popped and bled on me. Got salt solution and wiped it pretty damn good.

Sorry still about to puke.
I heard abd felt it pop.
Oh god. No.

Anyways yeah.

He seems fine in the cage
Ohngod sorry. Seems good in his cage not wimpering or wheeking. They get there medicine in a syringe in 3hours
 
I swear to god even what the vet said about nibbles being recent they both had it at the pet store.

They have three houses in the cage with non fixxed male and females and about 10-25 of them all together on a low enough cage for kids and people to come by abd stick there arms and hands in and it was a cage with no security or roof.
And on top of that a review some one left on there store was a man selling them mice for pets he was a professional breeder and the store kept the male and females together (like the guinea pigs) and sold pregnant mice to kids ect and the man institid on never selling them mice agian.
Same with there bunnys and everything else!

This is far from animal abuse let alone the kids getting pregnant animals.
The kids dont know how to take care of a pregnant animal or there parents.

And last time i asked them about a female guinea pig they insisted she wasent pregnant. But I'm not retarted.

Poor you! Now that the worst has come out, could you please try to trickle some saline solution into the abscess wound to flush it out as much as possible? I am ever so sorry to have to ask you to do this every day, but it is the only way, Nibbles stands a chance of not needing an operation, especially in view of his abscess being in a very sensitive spot. it should hopefully get less with every passing day as the abscessed area is shrinking and there is less space that can be refilled with gunk. :(

Thank you for clearing up the shampoo question. Perhaps one of our US members has got experience with it?
 
I use h2ocean peirceing spray.
Its a salt water solution purfied spray in a bottle.
Used to heal but aimed at peircings.
I spray some on a cloth and wipe it.
It would save my can if i just sprayed the wound instead of spraying alot on a dry cloth then wiling him.
I only have a bit of the can left.

(I used it on them today)
And yesterday ao far

The issue is that you need not just wipe the wound but gently syringe it into it to flush out the infectious gunk as much as possible, so it doesn't stay in the body to cause more havoc. If you are very short on money, you can always make your own saline solution. I have given you the recipe twice already.
 
Shouldni spray it instead of wiping? Its a spray bottle.
I also have a extra syringe that i got for there medicine but the spray bottle is alittle more salt water and alittle more powerfuler
