Emergency - two lumps found!

Poor you and Phoebee. I will have fingers and toes crossed for Friday.

Where exactly is the lump?
How big is it?
Why is she having it removed?

I will now take a chance and say;
I doubt if it is a tumour, within the accepted definition of the word. Even if it is, the chance of it being malignant is extremely low.

its under one of her front armpits, its an long oval shaped, now the slightly bigger than the top of my ring finger. they said it needs to be removed asap incase its something sinister, he doesn't want to chance leaving it there. it has grown quite a bit since being on antibiotics

I would say it is almost certain to be benign.
It could be an enlarged lymph node, although they tend to be football shaped.
The rugby-ball shaped lumps tend to be either a fibroma or a lipoma.
There are, as ever, exceptions to the rules but, from your description, I would not be in "panic mode".

thank you. you've put my mind to rest

she's come home from her operation. she's perkier than normal! she had me worried all day, but it seems that it must've aggitated her as she's gone back to how she was when she was a little, tiny one! oh, and she's 1.8kg in weight :o

Any diagnosis on the lump?
Are you sure her weight is 1.8kg?
That is almost 4lb!!

that's what their scales said! no diagnosis yet, need to wait 7-10 days for that. she isn't chubby, but she's long and is a chunky boned abby

she's very tired now, fast asleep on her side. she bit me this morning, but i think that's because i caught her offguard and she's lonely

This is her wound

she's sleeping a hell of a lot, but i think that's to be expected? I haven't really seen her fully awake today, may get a towel and cuddle her for a while but not sure if i should disturb her

After Mimsi went in for his bladder op this year, he was unsteady on his feet and sleepy for a couple of days. I suppose it depends on how much GA they get. Mimsi kept trying to walk and staggering over to one side. He didnt show much interest in veg, but scoffed his critical care and I gave him some fresh cut grass to tempt him. Mimsi had an incision down his abdomen as he was meant to be getting his bladder stone removed. The wound healed well and didnt seem to bother him that much.. Sending healing get well wheeks to Phoebe..

i just hope the 5day and 10day checks go ok, then she can go back to live with her sisters. i've heard from my mum that the others are really quiet, really missing their lovely matey

thankfully she's fine walking, she's just waddling just like she typically does! she's a proper abby through and through! she's yawning loads and sleeping loads. she's also not talking very much, do you think that's something to be concerned about?

I would have expected her to be back to normal by now - but having said that, the few pigs I've had that went through a GA have been unsteady for up to 2 days post op. Each pig reacts differently. Is she eating normally? That's the most important thing at the moment I think.

She reminds me a lot of my Charlie, although he wasn't as heavy! The Abys do seem to be a rather chunky breed, I keep laughing at my Saffron and her "cankles". :))

Saffron is one of my faves of yours Laura, along with Willa, Sophia and Delilah!

Pheobe's eating as she normally does and is a poop machine like she normally is! She's currently rolling a toilet roll round the cage and taking the odd nibble of it.

How long does the fur take to grow back? Her shaved bit is still hairless, I have the heating on, but still concerned she may get really cold.

Just want to say that I am so pleased that little Pheobe is OK. When my Connie was shaved, the vet said it could take a couple of weeks for the fur to grow back but I imagine all pigs are different xx

I am glad for you that Phoebe has made it through the op OK and is coming round and eating really well!

The fur should be growing back soon. Piggy wounds heal amazingly quickly.

This evening I have noticed that the fur is noticeably growing back! I am so glad as I thought her bald bit was going to get cold. She is still sleepy, bless her, but could that be because she's depressed and missing Ruby, Bethany and Maggie-May?

I'm glad she seems to be doing so well. Why isn't she with her friends? Whenever my pigs have had ops they have taken their cagemates in with them to the vets and Simon has put them straight back with their little friends after.

the vet said that Pheobe needs to be kept inside (her buddies are outside - with heat pads!), warm and on her own so the others don't mess with her wound. Ruby especially is a barberer and can not be trusted not to chew!

ok you guys, i got her weight wrong, she's 1.08kg! not 1.8kg! silly me! she's on my lap now teeth chattering away, goodness knows why. maybe because we've only just got back from the dreaded place beginning with V! her scar's healing well, she's the same weight. no results back yet, though the vet thought it was probably a lymph node? saw her sergeon and vetinary hurse who looked after her friday and they said she amazed them because she was so well and vocal afterwards!

I just got the call to say what BeeBee's lump was....

....It was a beguine tumor!

Oh my. You see, you did do the right thing having little Pheobe operated on. I imagine your relieved that you can get on with things now. Give Pheobe a kiss from me and my girlies xx
