Eriathwens piggies

For the first time in 10 years I have exactly zero guinea pigs in the house 😭 they've all been dropped off at boarding so they don't get stressed out with the boiler replacement. Absolutely sick leaving them, I hope they get on OK. The lady seemed lovely and absolutely knows what she's doing or I wouldn't have chosen her but I've never left them for any amount of time before outside of visits to the vet!

Ah I can understand how you are feeling.
You’re helping them as a boiler replacement is a big thing
You’ve carefully checked this lady and I’m sure your piggies will have a lovely holiday 🥰
I hope you can sleep well without worrying too much 🥰

My 3 absolutely love going to the boarders for their holidays. There are lots of interesting smells, lots of piggies to chat to and they get more treats than they do at home. Your piggies will be fine and have a wonderful time of holiday.

It seems very strange with no piggies to sort though.

I think the main reason I feel so awful is Banjo just lay down and refused to move, he was so scared, all he's ever known is his own 4 walls apart from the day he went to get castrated. And while he's bonded to Lily, theyre not exactly best friends. Hopefully having her company will at least still be reassuring though. Maybe they'll stop bickering like siblings for 5 minutes 😅

Oliver and Fern had moved in before we had even finished getting everyone out the carriers 🤣 eating hay, pellets, drinking, having a good nose around..happy as Larry.

They've got lots of other piggies to talk to while they're there, I just hope they don't think they've been rehomed again. Especially Bella and Amelia, they've already been moved about so much in their lives.

Better than having loads of hammering, dust and drilling going on. I hope the new boiler is up and running quickly and you are all back together soon 🙏

Absolutely, the stress of it quite possibly would've been too much for Bella, and possibly Banjo now based on his reaction to moving!
I did ask if I could stay as well 🤣 I'm not looking forward to the noise and upheaval. The cat will have to be sedated, I'll have to make sure no one goes in his room because the last thing I need is him getting in the pigs room while they've got the floor boards up! Could do with a sedative myself lol

If it comes to it I can take a short walk if it gets too much, I suppose.

It's grim. Poor kitty, no ear defenders could fit him unfortunately. Yes, going out might be the best thing when it gets too much 🙁

The grumpy old sausage wouldn't put up with any sort of help which is frustrating. I know he would be safer in his dog crate but he would be beside himself trying to get out..

I've got one of 3 cages taken down and out the room and I'm already tired! Good opportunity to deep clean the room though.
My friend was supposed to be here helping but bless her she's got a horrible cold so we told her to stay home. I could've done with an extra day doing it by myself but never mind 😅

Hope all goes well with the boiler replacement.
We had heating / aircon units fitted in last year.
The piggies spent their day in their basket being moved around the house to minimise some of the noise,.
They coped fine and I’m sure your piggies will have a great time at the boarder’s when they settle.

Well work has started and I'm SO glad the piggies are in boarding, oh my god it's loud! My nerves are already shot to bits, I've got the shakes 😅 the joys of ptsd I suppose. I'm trying to distract myself as best I can because unhelpfully I found some dry skin next to my eyebrow which I've been picking at and already made sore.

I'm sat with the cat who, to his credit, is doing quite well so far. Maybe I should have asked the doctor to give me some gabapentin to take the edge off as well 😂

In the absence of any piggy's, here is honorary guinea cat Willow being a good boy.

Ah sweet Willow will ground you and support you ❤️

They've removed the redundant old water tank...which lives in the guinea pig room!

I'm so excited, I might be able to get a chair in there now to sit with them.
Hope the worst is over, or almost over 🙏❤️

Luckily they finished up and left just after 1, they'll be back tomorrow and hopefully should be done by lunchtime! I've got no hot water, but its only for a day so oh well.
Annoyingly I can't rip out the cupboard surrounding the old water tank as it's full of pipework but I can probably still get a beanbag in there 😅 Oliver, Fern and Iris are in a cage still big enough for when their herd was a group of 12.. so Lily and Banjo can go into there with it split down the middle which opens some of the room up a bit more.

I must admit I've always wanted to start doing yoga, I went for a couple of sessions of free yoga in the local park with friends but it was at the crack of dawn on a Sunday and I'm not a morning person 😅 but I definitely felt better after.

All the work was finished today, I'm still a bit stressed from it all, it lasted longer than planned but they've left things looking lovely. Ive deep cleaned the piggies room, even wiping down all the walls (I had no idea there was so much hay dust on them!)
I've done away with Banjo and Lilys cage and split the largest down the middle. Just need to put fresh hay in the cages and put the curtains back up now they're dry.

I had said that once I had working heating, I would consider treating myself to a little skinny pig or some other hairless breed as I've always wanted one, but would never subject them to this cold house with unpredictable heating! But with a new boiler and working radiators now, I feel like it's something doable. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to find one in need of rescuing at some point. I doubt it'll be any time soon, but I do wonder if Banjo and Lily might benefit from another lady around the place, they're bonded but not super close. Banjo adored Tilly and hasn't allowed Lily to get close since she died.

The BEST news is, I get to collect the piggies tomorrow at 11am, I'm so excited to see them. Ive been sent pictures and videos each day and Banjo got a lovely cuddle to help him settle, they look like they've been having a lovely time.. I would definitely take them back if needed, she's been amazing.

Happy news and reassuring for you 🥰
I bet the piggies have loved their holiday and will be excited to see their new set up
I’m sure a skinny pig will find its way to you ❤️

Great that you have lovely reliable heating and the work has been a success. I hope a skinny piggy comes along soon. Great news about the piggies all being well and happy ❤

Merrypigs and The Potteries are both in Staffordshire so not far , depending where in the West Midlands you are.
May be worth contacting both and registering interest.
You have an excellent reputation as a piggy owner so I think there wouldn’t be any problem with adopting a skinny pig when you’re ready

I've SO been enjoying having my piggies back home. I missed them so much 😅 unfortunately as I suspected, the stress of the move has brought on a small respiratory issue in Fern, who is now on antibiotics and nebuliser treatments. She's eating, pooping, active (as much as Fern can be active, lazy sausage) and otherwise normal. Discharge is only really seen after a nebuliser treatment and she isnt sneezing, she's just making a clicky wheeze when she breathes which is coming from her nasal passages, thankfully not her lungs, although she is having to put quite a bit of effort into breathing sometimes. I'm going to try to get her seen tomorrow just in case it's not that simple, at 6.5 I must admit I'm worried about her heart, but we will see.

Everyone else is doing brilliantly and glad to be home! They're currently enjoying lettuce, celery leaves and cavelo nero.

I hope the vet appointment goes OK. They are fine looking piggies 🥰 I hope little Fern will be alright ❤️🙏
