Eriathwens piggies

Ferns appointment is now tomorrow afternoon due to multiple emergencies today, which is fine.. shes eating and quite happy. Ive a feeling she's got a blocked nostril or something rather than an infection but I dont know for certain. My concern is, blocked with what. Hopefully just dust or something from the different bedding at the boarder, it isnt screaming URI to me at the moment but I suppose we will find out tomorrow.

So, some good news, some bad. The good news is he doesn't think it's an infection, I dont think either of us could survive what she went through previously with her pneumonia. The bad news is, it isnt likely to be something stuck in her nasal passages as the most noise is being made mid way between the nostrils and the lungs, which would suggest there's something pushing on things internally.

So we're looking at a tumour or an enlarged heart. Currently we're going to continue the antibiotics and f10 nebuliser treatments and up her metacam to twice daily, and hope that it resolves with being back home and relaxed.
We will go from there, depending on what happens.

Thanks guys, shes still very bright and happy. Unfortunately she's gone from 880g on Tuesday to 830g today, so I've started syringe feeding even though she is still eating really well for herself. She was incredibly eager to take it by herself which shows she's clearly not feeling unwell, which is something.

Of course the other little locusts immediately smelled it and wanted some themselves, luckily even after all these years I always manage to make more than I need 😅

Fern is having her first official "bad day" today 😔 I got up and her breathing was even more laboured. She's down to 790g and her poops are smaller and a bit sticky in spite of eating well.

I've been out in the garden and picked her a big bunch of grass, dandelions, sticky weed and herb robert which she is absolutely demolishing. When the vets open Tuesday I will be requesting a trial of heart meds to see if that helps.

Gorgeous girl. She looks happy with that little picnic! Hope you can get something helpful sorted for her.

Sweet little piggy, I hope there is a way of getting her better ❤️🙏

Thankyou, I'm hoping it's just a blip, her poops are back to normal size but still a bit sticky. She is still eating very well though, she's got through 2/3 of the grass and weeds, as well as a good chunk of an apple and pansy heart from pets at home. She does have a fairly snotty nose today so I might ask about some bisolvon as well when I call the vets.

She has had a good run around the living room, setting up camp under the footstool 🤣

Don't wanna go vet mom 🥰

Unfortunately Fern passed away this afternoon. The noises she was making changed overnight, I was 50/50 on whether to call for medication to try, or to have her put to sleep, but she still seemed bright so I opted for meds but stressed it was urgent.
She was bright throughout the morning, just seemingly very tired. I checked on her every hour or so all night and today. Unfortunately when I went to check her at about 12:45 she had peacefully passed away laying down looking like she had been sleeping.
Oddly enough when I pulled my phone out to call the vet to let them know medication wouldn't be needed, my vet beat me to it to ask what had been going on etc, once updated, we discussed the meds for future reference but he offered for me to bring her down to see what on earth happened.

Upon post mortem examination, her trachea was normal all the way down until splitting into the 2 main bronchial tubes, where (I believe the left) one was thickened, grainy and inflamed so much he couldn't get his scissors in to cut it open. So effectively she was using only one lung. Both lungs were perfect, no inflammation, no fluid, no infection. Her heart itself was OK but the surrounding sack contained uncalculated blood.

The tissue and lymph nodes surrounding the cancerous airway were also grainy, inflamed and were all adhered together.

So, unfortunately, poor Fern had a heart related cancer that spread to her airways, nothing we did could have helped or changed the outcome 😔

I'm so sorry you lost gorgeous Fern. She toddled off to the Rainbow Bridge at home and surrounded by love. You gave her lots of happy todays and that's all a piggy needs and wants.

Thankyou both, I'm so glad it was peaceful for her. Poor Oliver and Iris are currently sat in her favourite corner currently 😔

Also I don't know why my phone keeps changing words, but that was meant to say there was uncoagulated blood around her heart.

Wishing comfort to you and Oliver and Iris. Rest easy at the bridge little Fern 🌈
