I am very sad that Esme has made her way to the Rainbow Bridge in the very early hours on Friday morning after all her friends had repeatedly assured her of their love and support as she deteriorated quickly since Wednesday.

Esme came here at the start of 2024 as the last surviving of @Claire W 's piggies after regularly spending her summer and some other holidays here, so she knew the Tribe. I'd long offered Claire to give a home to her last piggy. Because I'd known her as Esme on her various stays before, she kept her name.

Anyway, over time Esme has lived with quite a few of my Tribe piggies as I am working my numbers down, but mostly as Beti's devoted sidekick, who she was closest to in age and who looked similar to her old bestie Ella.
Despite that, it took her initially a little while to get her bearings and to settle into a new group since she very much depended on the guidance of a more dominant piggy and was feeling very insecure but that settled quickly once she found her place and Beti to take her under her wing.

Beti and Esme joined Macsen when he returned here from @Qualcast&Flymo last summer after he'd lost his beloved Manon very unexpectedly. They made a harmonious and happy trio before they were recently joined by newly widowed Llinos.

Esme was a rather quirky pigsonality who loved the subterranean life, burrowed under blanket or mat and erupting amongst much wheeking when all the others had already started tucking into their dinners. She was quite vocal and liked her drama, especially when being back to living with husboars.

Esme was just a few weeks short of her 6th birthday and she is missed by her friends Beti, Macsen and Llinos. She's spent the last 2 1/2 years here with me.

This is my last picture of her enjoying some fresh grass with Beti, Macsen and Llinos

I have buried her with a bouquet of scented rose and honeysuckle with my last sprig of forget-me-not as a stand in for Claire's love and thoughts accompanying Esme as well.

PS: Please wait with posting replies until Claire has had time to pay tribute to Esme's years with her in the next post down.

Thank you so much for the beautiful tribute @Wiebke and of course for giving Esme a loving forever home ❤️

I adopted Esme with her friend Ella back in March 2021 as companions for my neutered boar Edward and Elizabeth from an old forum member who I remained friendly with on Facebook. We went to her home for the initial bonding and they all got on almost from the start. I carried on the bonding in my mum and dad’s kitchen that same day and they were all ready to go in the cage together that evening. It was as if they’d always been together.

Esme lived with me for nearly 3 years. Edward sadly passed away in August 2022 and I always assumed Ella and Esme would live out there days together with me but it wasn’t meant to be and we sadly lost Ella in October 2023 followed by Elizabeth in December 2023. This left Esme alone 😞

Sadly due to my own health issues, I made the decision that these would be my last guinea pigs but I hadn’t expected to lose them so soon. Esme was very sad by herself and I knew it would be cruel to keep her as a single as she was only 3 1/2 years old. Wiebke stuck to her promise and we took Esme to her new home on 14th January 2024.

This was one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve ever had to do but I knew Esme would be happier with Wiebke and the tribe. It was also of course the end of my guinea pig journey after I’d had guinea pigs from November 2008 13 guinea pigs in total over the years.

As you can see, Esme lived a very happy life with Wiebke and her friends. I am every so grateful and always will be for the gift that Wiebke gave ❤️

I am heartbroken that Esme has crossed the rainbow bridge but she has a lot of friends there to greet her.

Sleep tight Esme. I love you and always will do ❤️❤️❤️ xx

Here are some of my favourite photos of Esme while she was living with me 🥰

So sad to read this, 😢 she sounded so lovely. I can imagine the heart ache you are both feeling.

What a wonderful and rich life Esme had with two sets of truly dedicated and loving owners, getting twice as much love and so many friends over the years. The photos are adorable. She sounded like such a great piggy, I’m sure she’ll be much missed by humans and piggy friends alike. Take care of yourselves as you grieve.

PS: One rather memorable holiday included a failed bonding attempt with my newly neutered Baeddan but he was sadly too much of a rampant and uppity teenager for Elizabeth's liking!

It was such a shame that things didn’t work out between my girls and Baeddan after such a promising start 😞 I was gutted but I’m glad Baeddan got to stay with you and is living his best life ❤️
