Hi, I'm curious, how many hours of exercise or play time do your piggies get on the floor or outdoors?

Ours get around 24 hrs in a big big run during clean time on a weekend... Other than that they live in a 2x8 c&c cage so have a fair bit of room. We had a special needs piggie that used to free range but our other girls don't like free ranging the prefer boundaries lol

Hi, Lee, that's wonderful ! LOL ! ! Mine has a preference for pine needle bushes. When he was little, he liked me taking him from tree to tree in the park, so he could chew on small branches. LOL ! Would you consider that exercise?
Thanks,
Alexis

I would be too nervous to take them to a park! When I said free range I meant indoors :) Meg was an explorer you could leave her out for hours, they only problem was the poo presents she left behind :))

Ours are indoor piggies, so there run takes up half of our room when cleaning... we use a plastic covering with fleece on top then a load of C&C grids linked together. Because it is so fleecy and they get their tunnels and beds in there this normally invokes a popcorn frenzy off baby Widget and Sasspy

Hey there! My pigs get about the same time on the weekend (24hrs)and i've recently been letting them out for an hour every evening to play together and with my daughter out on the grass. I just went over to AL Thompson's (like Home Depot) and bought a 30ft wire fence and i roll it around the grass area and they just run and run and run!

All our piggies except one pair of Boars ( Wallace & Tim ) live in C & C Cages so generally have lots of space to run around in during the day. As we have 6 different groups we also rotate floor/lap time of an evening. This may sound rather eccentric but we control floor time using a spreadsheet. We have set-up 2 piggie areas within our home which have been piggie proofed this allows us to ensure over the weekdays the piggies get an average of 6 hours floor time. At weekends we rotate the piggies all day to give them as much floor time as possible and if the weather is good enough at weekends we have a mass exodus into the garden for run time instead. :tu:

We don't know if you still take your piggie to a public park, but be careful if you do as Dog Pee is poisonous to piggies and can cause fatalities.

Hi, Lee, you're an expert on piggy exercise regimens! Mine never saw a cage, I would let him run around in the apartment, I would take him to the park, you're right, it requires extraordinary supervision, also some people would come up and offer to buy my piggy, highest offer was $20! LOL!
Thanks,
Alexis

You have a spreadsheet :)) This is genius! But I bet you have to with your various herds,

Guinea pigs go for $45 CI here in Cayman ...that's $56.25 US dollars! But hardly any locals take the time to educate themselves on proper guinea pig care. I've even known a lady that fed her guinea pig rabbit food and gave him dust baths just because that's what she had from previous pets!

It is difficult at times, although the main rule is boys before girls... ;) We keep a spreadsheet because if 1 of us is home from work earlier than expected, then they can see which piggies need their run time topped up so each lot gets the same over the week.. ... Piggie management 101.. :lol!:

Hi, Lisa, you're right, places that are under "scoop the poop" regulation are preferred, and even then, it's best not to let the piggy nibble on the grass because of pesticides. Places with leash laws are also preferred. It's a good idea to bring toys and food, to keep piggy busy. I think I might be making a name for myself, but here it goes: my piggy had it's own baby stroller and I would wrap him in towels and put his teddy bear next to him and the bag with all his stuff and push the stroller around town all the way to the park
Thanks,
Alexis

Hi, Lisa, I'm impressed with the spreadsheet and curious. Why not just let all your piggies run at the same time? How many do you have, you said 6? What would happen if you let them all together? I'm trying to learn from you, in case I'm ever lucky enough to care for six. It seems like you and your friend are doing an excellent job. I'm very happy for you. Can you post some photos so I can see your cuties?
Thanks,
Alexis

We have 3 pairs of boars ( Wallace & Tim ) , ( Fred & Barney ) , ( Toby & Hunter ) also a single boar Uno. We couldn't and wouldn't mix these boars at run time, as the resulting carnage would result in the bonded pairs being broken, not to mention the vet bills due to the fights that would ensue. We also have a neutered boar Ouzo with his wifepigs Morgan, Tia & Saffi. who have floor time after the boys so that the girlie's scent is not on the floor, not to upset the boys. Our avatar is Morgan (left) and Ouzo (right).

Hi, Lisa, it's very difficult with so many. It seems like you and your friend are doing an excellent job.

My boys exercise time varies depending what shifts I'm doing.
so unfortunately there is no routine but when I'm off or on an early they get hours of exercise. So I don't feel too guilty.
and this week cuz of my long days 3 of them I have asked my mum to get them out for me

I can't see how anyone could put a piggy on grass then not let them eat any! How could anyone manage that lol :) No way I could prevent mine from eating grass once they are on it :)

Hi, "the boys" it seems like you're doing great bonding with your piggies and exercising them, and asking mum to join in, that's wonderful.

Hi, "Poppy'sMum", I have an idea that can work for you. Would you consider bringing some greens, an aromatic herb, such as a little basil, and some bits of cucumber, and presenting those to your piggies when they start to sniff around on the grass. Remember, they are out there to move around, so keep them moving and busy and entertained. It's that you have to get physically involved in helping them move around. I used to chase mine, grab him and roll around. Once, a passerby thought I was having an epileptic seizure because he didn't see the piggy in my arms, he just saw me flailing around

They do run around quite a bit, I certainly won't be chasing them, I think that would probably stress them out a bit too much lol :)

Hi, "Poppy'sMum" no stress at all, just be gentle, you know your piggies, you know what to do. Have fun.

When my granddaughter was younger she enjoyed putting my 2 boys in the laundry basket trolley with their, food, water & hideys & then wheel them along as we walked to my local fish & chip shop where we'd have lunch. The boys enjoyed the ride & still like being wheeled around in conveyances..

My four always have atleast 4 to 5 hours every day in the spare room. But if its sunny about 9 hours, as it dont happen very often with all this rain lol.

That's so funny. I'd love to see you walking round my town. I d definately come and say hello

Would a Guinea pig not be scared being pushed around in a stroller? I know mine hate going in their carrier just to be transported to the end of the garden to their enclosed run!

Good morning, Lilly, you're absolutely right! It's great fun, isn't ? Putting baby in the trolley or the shop cart and just wheeling them about. Once I saw a lady with her doggy in one of those baby backpacks, she even had a blankie for him! I used to hide Sunshine in a bag and take him to the supermarket, and put him in the cart, so he could hear how I was choosing his greens for him.

Good morning, "Momof4boys" do you wheel your boys around or put them in a bag? When Sunshine was going to the park, he would ride in his baby stroller.
Thanks,
Alexis

Good morning,"GothMummy" I think your piggies are more scared of the aseptic pet carrier. You're talking about one of those boxes, right? Those are scary, those things scare me just by looking at them. Why not pick up each piggy individually, it might take you an extra ten or fifteen minutes? My piggy just loved being out in the world, I always put him in something I could wheel around, or I would hang the bag he was in around my neck. I never carried him out with my bare hands, I was afraid of dropping him.
Thanks,
Alexis

Good morning, Winifred, the piggies on your avatar are lovely. Thank you. I'm sure we would have lots of fun letting our piggies play together (eventually, I will get another one)
Have a really good day.
Thanks,
Alexis
