Very sadly I have today lost my lovely Felix.

Felix was part of the Bank Holiday Monday rescue last May https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/potteries-gpr-bank-holiday-boars-rescue.169875/ when we took in 6 adult guinea pigs from a neglect situation. Of all the piggies we took in that day he was in the worst condition. He was skin and bone under his filthy matted fur (which harboured mites and running lice) and had many open sores where he had been bullied by other boars and buck rabbits.

He came as a foster piggy to me with the plan to get him well enough for neutering and then to put him up to be adopted as a companion for a sow or 2. On arrival he needed a major hair cut, de-matting, 3 changes of bath water to get his cost near to white and treatment for his nasty wounds (back, ears and lips and nose).

Here he is after his clean up. Looking tiny but much better.

Over the next couple of weeks his sweet, gentle personality came out. Sadly so did more fur and black muddy dust from his nostrils - we had to wash his face daily for the first couple of weeks to remove the mud and dust that came from his nose.

He discovered play and lawn time. I’ll never forget hearing his little excited squeaks of delight the first time he went in grass. He was such a delight.

He managed to wangle himself a place in the affections of MrA, who could often be found sitting with him on his knee as they watched football together on the TV. He gained weight, his coat improved, he discovered his boarly beauty.

He made it to 900g and was neutered , ready to wait for a wife companion. Here he is eating green beans after being neutered earlier in the day. You can just see the remnants of some Emeraid dripping off his whiskers.

Oh Vicki, I am so sorry. How heartbreaking. Big hugs from me.xx

At least after such a bad start in life Felix had such a loving home with you.

RIP handsome boy. 💕🌈🐾

While Felix was waiting for a new family to adopt him MrA suddenly announced that Felix wasn’t going anywhere and we would rearrange our piggy room to accommodate him and a new wife.

He didn’t have to wait too long - little old disabled foster piggy Angel needed a new cage mate. And after a very quick date in which Felix was very gentle with his wooing they moved in together.

After Angel’s passing Felix went dating at Auntie Helen’s and came back with Evie, who he lived with to the end. It was love at first sight.

Sadly Felix’s crappy start in life caught up with him towards the end of last year. Although he did his best to convince us he was fine we knew he wasn’t. Extensive tests showed he had liver damage from his previous neglect and blood tests showed he had no platelets. We always knew he wouldn’t be with us for very long.

He had a great Christmas with us and Evie. He particularly loved his new tunnels and new beds bought to make him happy.

he didn’t suffer until last night when he started crying in pain. I managed to get him comfy but this morning an X-ray showed he had a large bladder stone (not there 4 weeks previously). His liver damage had affected his absorption of minerals and resulted in him developing the stone. He was not a candidate for surgery, so I had to let him go.

Evie has said her farewells and Felix will be buried with our other RB piggies.

Farewell sweet gentle Felix. We did our best for you. I’m just sorry we didn’t have longer

I have to say I cried at that. In part because you've lost Felix, but also because of all that you did for him. What an awful start in life that little creature had, but you turned it all around for him, brought him back to health, gave him a safe, healthy, happy home and life. What a truly special human being you are and what a lucky boy Felix was x

I'm so sorry he's no longer with us x

At least in the end he was happy and loved. It sounds like you gave him an amazing life. Sending virtual hugs!

Sleep well, Felix.

I am so sorry that Felix had to make his way to the Rainbow Bridge - you have given him the best and happiest life and more human and piggy love than he could have ever imagined!

It is very sad that his past has never let Felix out of its grip but well done on you to keep him going for so many weeks after his devastating terminal diagnosis.

You have made his life worth living, despite everything. What a wonderful tribute to a very special piggy!

Take your time to grieve; it is not easy to getting used the absence in your life of a piggy as charming as Felix who has needed so much care and time, and created such a close bond as a result. :(

RIP Felix

I'm so sorry. He was a gorgeous little boar who must have been in absolute piggy heaven with you, making up a hundred times over for the bad times in his past.

Aw Vicki this is so sad, I shed a few tears today reading about the loss of little Felix, we all followed his story how you rescued him and nursed him and loved him, what a special little chap he was and you made his life so happy, its just so sad he's gone so soon... sending many hugs x

I'm sorry Vicki. He was such a beautiful lad who i'm so glad I had the pleasure to meet several times, especially the first time we he sat on my chest eating coriander. What an amazing boy he was. Sleep tight beautiful prince xx

Oh Vicki, just so shocked and saddened to see Felix name.
I was so glad when you rescued him, knowing his little life would be one of so much love. You have him the life that all piggies deserve.
Have fun at the rainbow 🌈 bridge. My Peter will look after you, you could have been twins.
Sending you massive hugs.
Sleep tight little Felix.xx

So sorry to hear of Felix's passing, what a sweet little boy he was. Quite emotional reading that but the resounding thought is how much love and care he was given despite his difficult start in life. Sending lots of ❤ xx
