I searched the forum and did not find the answer to this. So I'll ask here: does wetness in the vaginal area of a guinea pig signal being ready to mate, like going into heat or something? I checked out several guinea pigs today at the "local" pet shop (the one 20 miles away) and they were about 5 months old, 3 were sows, 1 was a boar. I tipped them up to identify their sex (one of them BIT me). The vaginal areas of the females were wet and glossy. There was no color to the gloss, just the shiny-ness of being wet. There was no irritation of the area. I was just wondering if that meant that maybe they were in heat or that they were already pregnant. I have seen other females that were dry; these were the first ones I had seen wet. And it didn't look like urine wetness.
