Fighting out of nowhere, need help!

If they can live together, it would help to give them each their own little hiding place, and their own food and water bowl. That way they both have equal territory. Place both things in different areas of the cage, that way one pig won't try to claim the other's water or food bowl. Good luck!

It was already like that :/ I had food water and hay each on the top and bottom level and this really just popped out of no where. Thank you so much though

I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who responded to this. I never expected a reply so quickly and you all were so so helpful. Even if this doesn’t work out between them, I now know I won’t have to give one away, and could make room for a diy divider cage. I will keep you all updated tomorrow, and thank you all so much again. It means a lot to me :))))

Were they in the same cage where you got them from?

Were they in the same cage where you got them from?
So I got my older guinea pig in June and then I read that they need companions so I saved up and bought the second one around mid - late July. I introduced them, the older one was clearly dominant, and they lived in the double decker cage I posted fine until this week. They had one good bowl, one water bottle, one hay feeder, and one hide away on each floor (2 in total for all) That’s when the younger one started teeth chattering and lunging at my older one. Then Thursday night I put them in a little play pen like I did when I introduced them and they’d go on and off from chattering to eating quietly then chattering etc. until that fight broke out. As of right now they’re in 2 separate cages (2 pics I posted earlier)

Ok. It might help to give them some hay or veggies when you reintroduce them. Give them each their own little bowl of food when you bring them back together. Let them eat, and just kinda watch. It'll help them get used to each other again while their distracted with something else.

When I first got my older pig I read that they need play time, so I let him run around my room. Same when I got the other one, they would go around exploring with each other. I noticed the chattering about 3 days ago when they were out playing on my floor, that’s why I don’t think it was a space problem because they had my whole room to run around. If I build a new seperated cage, can I switch off when I let them out? Ex., Sunday older one, Monday younger, Tuesday older, Wednesday younger, etc. or is it too cruel to keep them in for a whole day

Yes, they do need play time but if they are ever locked in the cage, then the cage needs to be big enough and
as I said above, the cage in your picture is far too small for them to be locked into together. A lack of space in such a cage is a cause for an increase in tensions, particularly where the are already underlying problems in the relationship

If they have to be separated because of fights then they will never be allowed to go out into your room at the same time. So it would have to be as you suggested- one piggy to free roam one day, and then the other piggy the next. They will never be allowed physical contact with each other

I understand that completely, thank you. Also, any tips for letting my piggies run free on my carpeted room? Does it make my rug nasty, they poop on it but I vacuum it up, but my moms worried about the pee soaking into the carpet, can I use a urine removed on my carpet?

Whatever area they have access to, they are going to pee and poop on. The only real way to prevent carpet damage would be to put a protective layer over the entire carpet.
You would want to be careful using any carpet cleaners or chemical products to ensure they were piggy safe. But even so, guinea pigs are very sensitive so any strong smelling items need to be kept away from piggies.
In this case, my feeling is prevention is better than cure - so finding a way to protect the carpet is better than trying to clean it after the fact.

I use a play pen for my guinea pig, and let him run around on a dog training pad. I don't think it would be too cruel to keep them in. Maybe use a sideways wheel for the guinea pig who stays in? Either that or while one is running around, hold the other one and groom it. That way they both get human interaction every day without being in the same proximity.

Just make sure they don't chew the training pad:nod:

I’m waiting for more c& c materials to be delivered on wedmeasay to build the other ones cage and then build lofts one each and buy more hide away, toys, etc. ThanI you to everyone that helped! (I will be moving that dresser next to the cage to connect to the other one so they’re next to each other)

You may find these guide links here helpful when planning your extension. Please keep in mind that hay makes over 80% of the daily food intake; the more your piggies are eating, the better because they will be overall healthier. A diet that is not mainly veg and pellet based but hay based can add 1-2 years to the average lifespan.

Thank you so much !

Hi everyone! Here is the new cage as of right now. Still on the process of buying hideaways and toys and maybe a small loft. One concern though. They can stick their little noses through the squares at each other and will sometimes teeth chatter. Should I be concerned that they can bite each other through the cage, Especially when I’m not home?7799ADB8-119C-492D-81F9-C8386E5A9950.webp

The cage looks good and they will be happier now they aren’t completely together. It’s a shame when relationships break down like your piggies have, but unfortunately they wouldn’t have been able to sort their relationship out so you’ve done the right thing in separating them. I wouldn’t think they would have the room from within one square to be able to bite the other piggy through the bars, you would want to observe how much they can open their mouths though.
