Hello,
apologies if this is the wrong subforum to post. I have 2 female guinea pigs that have been living peacefully together for almost 5 years now. About 3 months ago though, they had a fight resulting in a nasty mouth wound. No incidents since then until today with another minor bleeding wound inflicted. Additionally, the dominant female seems to keep chasing the other one around unless resting. I fear I will have to separate them, but can someone please advise on a couple of questions first?
1/ Is it normal for guinea pigs to stop getting along after such a long time living together?
2/ Do I have any options to diffuse the violence save separation? They are living in a 2x4 CC cage with no huts (I feel they needlessly decrease available space). Would adding stuff to the cage be likely to decrease the dominant female's agresiveness? What about increasing the cage size to 2x5 or 2x6?
