First time owner deciding on cage

Yeah they're adorable I'm a tad nervous because they're very skittish so I'm just giving them their space and sitting near the cage playing calming music whilst doing my own thing so maybe they get used to me. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼❤
 
Ahhh so cute. What I would say is add another hide. Also give them 48 hours to settle in before you do anything - even sitting next to the cage. You can announce your arrival in the vicinity and when you’re putting food in, changing soiled bedding etc. Also cover their cage with something so they can feel more secure.

Thank you so much for all your helpful comments they seem a lot more settled and love jumping about and exploring. I know nit too go too quick for them but they seem okay with me touching them and stroking a little. They like it best when all of a sudden I change the layout and they get so excited trying to figure everything out 😂🤗🤗
 
Hi, I'm really nervous about picking them up and when I lift them they twist and turn so I get scared. I understand they are prey animals so have got a snuggle safe to transport them in and out is there anything I can do to make them feel better about being held? They are babies so I guess they'll be quite nervous

It takes time, most will never like being held though but some learn to tolerate it. Really the only thing is to not try to pick them up yet until they are more more settled and comfortable being with you and then when you do, is to herd them into a carrier of box and pick them up out of that. It really isn’t something you can rush though and there is no magic trick to it unfortunately.

Yeah I understand it's going to take time for then to trust first so I think I'll work on that. They dont seem to mind the snuggle sack so as long they're happy that's all that matters thanks again for your help we love having them here 🤗
 
Definitely don’t use that cage! I’d say the best is a c&c cage or a diy cage like it. You need at least 2x4 panels for 2 pigs. You can find some pretty cheap ones on eBay.

I've found when getting young piggies used to being handled making the end result food helps. It only needs to be a couple of sprigs of corriander or a green bean, once they know being moved means food they are more comfortable with it.
 
Your new piggies are gorgeous and you've given them such a great home.

Do you think the breeder will treat the piggy you saw there? I feel worried about that piggy :(

i never actually saw that piggy it was listed on pets4homes the lady said somebody else was interested in them so hopefully they'll get the treatment they deserve x

I tried this and IT WORKED! because of this we've discovered Yennefer will do anything for a bit of coriander

Thank you, yes we thought we may as well go 3x4 as had some extra space. Its actually not been very difficult to clean because we built it with attached grids at the bottom (dont worry its completely covered so they cant feel it) we can move it around so we can get into the corners and the back without having to be actually in the cage. I'm really happy you like the cage this is my first time having a pet and I wanted to make sure we did it right. Thanks for all the support here x
