My daughter is concerned about one of her piggies
She's noticed that the feet is a bit dry n scaly. Any advice 113373

The photo isnt very clear but you should first check with a vet to rule out an infection like bumblefoot. If it is just slightly dry or sore skin that isnt cracked or infected the vet might prescribe some antiseptic foot wipes (CLX wipes for cleaning cat and dog paws) to stop any infection getting in, then vaseline. If it is just dry skin then Gorgeous Guineas do some great foot creams for piggies, we have a piggy with slightly sore flaky feet who likes to sit in her own wee and we use the CLX wipes from the vet to clean her feet then use the gorgeous guineas foot cream twice a week.

Hi and welcome!

Sorry; your picture is too blurred to get an idea.
With flaky skin, I would recommend to see a vet for a hands-on examination to rule out a fungal problem first and foremost.

Guinea pigs can have dry skin on their feet. A dab of Gorgeous Guineas foot ointment can help once any other potential issue has been ruled out.
But please be aware that overusing foot creams on a regular daily basis can soften the skin of the feet so much that it becomes much more liable to infections like bumblefoot.

Thank you for your advice. We are going to the vets today to get Nutmeg (the guinea pig) checked out to find out what it is and what could be causing it. 😊

I would like to let you know that the vet said it could be the start of spurs so from now on we will be giving Nutmeg (the guinea pig) some salt baths on her feet and rubbing in a small amount of sudocrem daily. Hopefully that will help. Thank you again for giving us advice on what we should do. ☺

Hi!

Please be VERY careful about the sudocrem. It dries out skin and can cause cracks if used daily! :(

Please also not that you canNOT prevent the growth of skin spurs. They are very common in guinea pigs (about a quarter of them develop spurs on their front paws), but in most cases, they can just be left. There are no spurs on back feet.
