hi i'm new to this so i don't know if i'm doing this right, but i'm thinking about changing my guinea pigs bedding from wood shavings to fleece because wood shavings are too messy and they get stuck in one of my guinea pigs fur. anyway i was just wondering if anyone knows where to get good fleece in the UK that's not really expensive but good quality?

thanks everyone for your suggestions, i was also wondering how to wash the fleece?

Wash it in non-bio with NO conditioner (conditioner stops it wicking the moisture away from the piggies). Don’t forget you need an absorbent layer under your fleece too.
I sometimes use white vinegar in the conditioner drawer as a deodoriser (but don’t always need it).
I also use a pet laundry bag from amazon to avoid getting little guinea hairs stuck in me washing machine filters!)

I recently got a pet laundry bag for that reason but I found it didn’t wash my fleece sheets very well. Would you be able to share yours? Do you find it washes well?

I’ve bought anti pill fleece from Amazon at £5.95 (free delivery) per meter (1,5m wide). I tend to buy 4 meters at the time then sew liners.

I wash mine with white vinegar and a dash of hibiscrub.

Hi yes, I bought this one (it was 8 months ago now). Everything seems to come out clean. I used to use a fragrance free non-bio washing liquid; but they stopped selling it - so replaced it with persil non-bio. I didn’t realise that it was scented until I got it home (because everyone says it mustn’t have fragrance I was worried). But they’ve been fine with it and it cleans their things really well. To be honest, these days most of their urine goes in the “hay room” (which I completely clean out daily) so the fleece is never that bad.

I be bought Ikea fleece blankets and lots from Home Bargains which are fantastic. They stay lovely and dry on top with a towel underneath.

Hi I’m thinking about changing Chester and Bennies bedding to fleece as they keep eating the hay, they literally have none left after a day of me putting it in and they’re getting a bit fat lol. I was wondering what fleece bedding is suitable. Would using dog blankets be suitable as the chew everything lol, I don’t want to put them in danger. Thanks all xx

Of course it is fine to change your main bedding to fleece, but it is extremely important that you do not limit their hay in any way.

If you are worried about their weight then please cut back on other things first (pellets in excess can cause weight gain), but guinea pigs should always have access to unlimited hay.
This will not cause them to get fat.
It is critical for their health (both dental and gut) and if it is limited they may end up with health issues.

I have used surecare laundry liquid, non scented and really gets it clean..I used the recommended dose in a 60c wash for baby fleece blankets and towels. I just shake the excess hay out inside a bin bag, or let the wind catch it over our lawn tbh! I am using a layer of paper, then towels, and some microfibre cloths in the heavily peed areas and then fleece on top..starting daily bedding washes/checks.

I am putting clumps of good timothy hay in a hay feeder, and generally all about the place, they can't get enough hay as Swizzgreys says.
