Fluffys fear aggression

In other news... My 'happy' pair of piggies aren't doing so well πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ, i heard teeth Chattering (only quiet) panicked ran into fluffy and princess who were both just drinking from water bottles confused went in to find nugget teeth chattering at marshmallow (Send help 😭) it was only quiet and calmed pretty quickly, they've only been together a few weeks but their bonding was pretty instant they cuddled up together within 5 minutes annd have happily shared food etc since, nugget came into season a week ago... She's still rumbling a week later (very unusual for her) 😩 Please tell me it's just normal dominance behaviour now marshmallow is hitting 4 months and I don't have another hormonal piggy 😭 she doesn't have cysts as she's had a recent x Ray so I'm hoping it's just a strong season, nugget is 15/16months xx there's been a bit of headbutting and nipping but nothing too dramatic... πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Princess is soooo good at taking medicine! She came right up for it didn't even need to pick her up! I'm amazed, never known anyone take it so easily! Clever princess 😊
I forgot to mention this, she often doesn't want to let go of the syringe!

Don't worry, it's probably the new smells and sounds of Princess temporarily upsetting them. It should settle down soon

Is she on Metacam? Christian is on Metacam and he loves the stuff! I am slowly weening him off his very high dose (0.7ml dog Metacam twice a day) for a serious back problem. He is now on 0.65ml a day for another 6 days then on 0.6ml for 2 weeks and so on until he is completely off it or he is on a maintenance dose for life. The vet thinks he will probably cope with 0.4ml twice a day.

She didn't πŸ˜‚ I wish all of them were that good at it πŸ˜‚ onslow was terrible he'd either spit it out, drool it out or throw it straight back up (and he was medicated 5 times a day with various things towards the end) nugget hated metacam when she had it but got used to it after a couple of doses, fluffy quite liked it but I had to pick her up she wouldn't take from the cage πŸ˜‚
They seem calmer and from reading it could be because it's one of nuggets first seasons since breaking bonnds with fluffy and meeting marshmallow 😊

Metacam is especially tasty to pigs, l have never found a piggy who didn't like it.
Princess likes head rubs as well, especially if they are followed by a piece of cucumber.
It's a bit quiet round here without her!

Please take a deep breath! It sounds not exactly very dramatic; it sounds like Nugget wants make clear who's the boss with her little teenager!

It wasn't 😊 looks calmer now, little teenager isn't fussed luckily she just carries on like nothings happening, she has guts though she'll take veg from nuggets mouth (but not from humans πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ) and most of the time nug just let's her πŸ˜‚

That is very normal behaviour from youngsters up to the teenage months - this is how they learn what is safe to eat and what not. Youngsters tend to attach themselves to an older piggy and follow them round, learning their territory, food safety and the finer points of the complex social cavy interaction by shadowing and mimicking a more experienced guinea pig. It is basically piggy school.

That is why Nugget lets her take food off her mouth but is currently busy keeping a rambunctious just about turning teenager in check. ;)

Oh good! Everything is a little nerve wracking when you've just had a long term bond fall apart, I feel like I need to install cctv in piggy cages πŸ˜‚

I think I've also read every part of the bonding, dominance and behaviour section several times too πŸ˜‚
Nugget is an interesting one because she's very social but was also dominant to fluffy right up until the hormones (in a nice way she was never bossy) but she clearly held onto a big grudge after the hormones and did give up dominance, she is usually very protective of marshmallow so hopefully turning teenage won't affect them too much 😊 absolutely no point to this post just I find it interesting how they are all so different πŸ˜‚ i also find the almost maternal instinct nugget had with marshmallow interesting πŸ˜‚

Oh and the eye stroking is great with marshmallow 😍 she calms right down which is great because nail cutting day is coming up πŸ˜‚

Nug and marshmallow happy popcorning, p and fluffy synchronising water bottle habits and eating/ grooming habits, one goes for a water bottle the next minute the others there too, one grooms then the other joins in, same with hay πŸ˜‚

Fluffy and nugget aren't overly happy about hearing each other though, there's the odd startle when they hear each other, hopefully they'll get used to it since they can't see each other

I honestly can't believe the difference in fluffy with a neighbour, I was so worried she'd stop eating but she's eating and drinking better than ever, not to mention all the popcorning and talking it's like she's learnt how to guinea pig again πŸ’– princess had a vet check yesterday (for her medicine sorted and just a general check over all good 😊) and I was so worried because it meant seperating them for an hour but they were so excited to see each other after they were running around squeeking lol πŸ˜‚ really rooting for these two to be friends they both deserve it so much πŸ’– fluffy was squeeking at the divide earlier looking for P who was taking a nap in her hammock πŸ˜‚ xx

Don't know how I missed this thread. Things are sounding very positive, I really hope these two can live together they sound so sweet.

Weigh day... Fluffy has gained 10g, P has maintained! 😁 Weights are stable and both did wees just before I picked them up πŸ˜‚ I haven't done scent swapping yet but the last couple of days ive held one then the other directly afterwards and not noticed any reactions everyone appears chilled 😎 shall I give it another week and then start scent swapping bedding? Or give it a bit longer? Xx

We had an unplanned yet positive meeting today, wish id had a neutral area set up to try introduction πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ had them out for cuddles p on me at the head of thhe bed aand f on Sam at the bottom, f hopped off Sam scurried across to me and P groomed herself then laid down next to P, they laid there all sprawled out and chilled for ages until fluffy weed on my foot and I had to put them back in their divided cage as I had nowhere set up! For reference don't panic they couldn't have fallen off the bed they were in the middle and it's up against wall and cot the only exit was blocked by Sam but regardless I wouldn't have let them near an edge and would've also stepped in the second it didn't look positive but I didn't want to interfere when everything looked good! No teeth chattering or rumbling, just chilled out and grooming! Lots of mutual popcorning when back in the cage! Fluffy is 5 weeks post spay tomorrow so we are almost at the 6 week mark where her hormones should be fully clear and it's obvious she's calming down a lot 😊 when we do introduce on neutral territory how will I know if one of them is going on overload and we need to go back to neighbours vs normal dominance? Obviously fluffy has had bad fear aggression previously and P is a bereaved 4 year old who also had a few unsuccessful dates! Ideally the first meeting will be outside on the grass when we have a free day to watch closely and good weather! I could do the living room but i would need to move nugget and marshmallow as their cage is on the floor in there and I don't want them disturbing things! πŸ™ˆ
