I found my bercy with a huuuge foot spur this morning. Snipped it gently, he showed no signs of discomfort (looks really red in the picture but was NOT bleeding)—does this look like bumblefoot underneath? Calling the vet in just a moment, but does anyone have experience with these two things as a duo? Not sure if they go hand in hand, have never had a piggy with either. Thanks!

Hi

This is not a foot spur (which is always a dead skin growth on the side of a pad). This rather looks like the start of bumblefoot (pododermatitis), which is always on a pressure point, either as an open (like yours) and often bleeding sore (in more advanced cases) or as a scab, which causes the bleeding when it comes off.
Please see a vet if at all possible and disinfect it with a mild disinfectant like saline solution if you cannot see a vet promptly.

I think that definitely looks like something that needs to be seen by a vet. Good luck.

I agree. It was not a foot spur (even if it was they should not be cut), it does look like bumblefoot so does need a vet check. I hope he is ok.

Thanks guys. Of course he is seeing a vet, I made him an appointment directly after making this post. He did have a very long growth, which was comfortably removed as it was oversized (seemingly came out of nowhere!) and hanging on by a thread. Still learning about little feet problems, but hopefully it will be an easy treatment. Keeping him clean for now :)
