your guinea pigs pellets etc. always remember to give the company feedback because they may not always realise that there is a problem.

I recently emailed Science Selective about their food getting stuck on guinea's teeth, I had a very nice first email which I posted in the Science Selective food review, but then Cesaro got one caught on his tooth, my son had to remove it, the poor fella was trying to do it himself with his paw.

I then email again and got this response, I let him know that it was happening more than people think, it's just that people don't bother to send feedback to them about it.

Hello Kerrie,

I am very sorry to hear about this.

We are working on a solution and have already run some trials with the hole removed from this product.

I appreciate this is a concern for you, and if your guinea pig is prone to this problem then you may well be wise to consider a different product for the short term. I must however advise you that this is not a wide spread issue, although one we agree needs resolving.

Alternatively, to avoid changing his diet, whilst perhaps a little ‘make shift’, you could try breaking the nuggets in half before feeding them. To compensate for the inconvenience of this, I will happily have some free of charge product sent out to you. Perhaps when we have some product without holes, would you be interested in trying this for us and providing your feedback?

If you would like to accept the above, please advise your address.

I look forward to hearing from you and can assure you we are working to address this.

Kind Regards,

Nick Thomas

What a good idea, and what a good and helpful response too :)
A company genuinely trying to produce a good quality product will appreciate knowing when things go right, as well as wrong. I must admit I rarely take the time to write to a company, however I did so on a tinned organic veg soup I tried, and thought was the best soup I had ever tasted (seriously), and told them so. I think it's helpful to a company, good or bad :)

i noticed that the bag of Harringtons pellets i got yesterday seemed a lot smaller than the previous bag... but theres no holes in them... seems daft putting holes in them. especially with how tiny piggies teeth are ! Nice that they replied and are willing to send you some freebies..

Thank you Kerrie for reporting this, as you know I had the same problem and felt when telling them (complaining would be to strong a word) nicely I felt I was the only one. My boys loved the nuggets and picked them out of the bowl first when mixed with others but I got sore fingers breaking them up. Will be pleased to know when they get rid of the hole and I can buy some more.

Is it the Harringtons Optimum? If so, I had the same problem and phoned the company - they were very good and explained it's a production problem which they are trying to rectify. She said she would send me a packet of the "proper sized" pellets in the meantime. The trouble is that some guinea pigs find them too small to pick up, so they can't eat them.

Yes, it is the Optimum ones.. I might complain then !

It does! I'd be worried about mine choking on them!
Yes, I agree; also they said at Cavy Corner that a lot of piggies can't even pick them up so can't eat them. The small ones look to me, just like mouse droppings. I haven't had my replacement packet yet, but someone told me they stock them in Waitrose, so I might see if I can get a packet there and hope they are the right size.
