Hi everyone, if someone wanted to foster piggies in need on behalf of a cavy rescue, what is the normal procedure? Do the rescue provide housing etc? If not, what would a potential fosterer need to have? :) Seems to be a lot of poor piggies needing a good start :)

If you want to foster for RSPCA you need to provide
1 Time.... fostering is not something to consider if you are working full time/or have a busy social life. Foster animals need you to be there to moniter and assess the animals and also provide company. This does not mean you have to be with them 24 hours a day,but the majority of you day should be spent at home.

2 Space.... Foster animals MUST be kept seperate from existing pets. Therefore it is essentail you have a spare room/shed/outbuilding/hutches for other animals. It is also adviseable that you have easy to clean floors eg linoto reduce the chance of cross infection between animals.

3 Telephone....It is vital that you have a telephone as you need to keep in touch with the branchand vets regarding the the animals in your care.

4 Transport.... Access to your own transpart is beneficial in fostering as this means youcan take the animals in your care to the vets should the need arise. However,it is not essential as we can provide transport.

5 Commitment.... Although fostering is a temporary arrangement for each animal fostered,we are looking for people for some considerable time.

6 Two character references. These can be from anyone who knows you but who isnt living in your home.

This is what my local branch want from me
:)
Also if you live in rented accomadation you need written prove your landlord or housing office will allow you animals in the property. All existing animals must be neutered and inoculated. You must be able to LET GO of the animals when a new home is found. :)

Some do give you hutches methinks, but its better you have your own :smitten:

Have you got any fosters in yet pumpkin? :smitten:

Not all branches of the RSPCA use fostering and if they do it may only be within a small area . Walsall only use fosteres within their own postcode area and were only looking for fosterers for cats and dogs . From their website they provide hutches, food and vet care.

Not Yet not finished the shed yet the rains been holding the work off on it getting fed up now. Flash,Blaze and Pumpkin are going to thier new home this Saturday :) so come Monday rain or shine I will be flat out painting studding the walls with thermal foil and laying lino down. Puttying the windows ect. I have varnished quite a few hutches which are all covered over in the back garden. I am trying to locate somewhere that sells those heavy duty plastic sheds for my mower and garden tools I only need a tiny one argos do them but deliverly is kerbside ::)no way could I move one round the back on my own.
I will be ready in time for the winter inflow though :)
